THE ORGANIZTION PROVIDED A $50,000 GRANT TO THE ILLAHEE FOREST PRESERVE. THE GRANT WAS PROVIDED TO THE ILLAHEE FOREST PRESERVE AS PART OF A MATCHING GRANT TO ENABLE THE ORGANIZATION TO PURCHASE ADDITIONAL FOREST LANDS ADJACENT TO ITS EXISTING PROPERTY. THE ILLAHEE PRESERVE IS APPROXIMATELY 700 ACRES OF PUBLIC AND PRIVATE LAND OF MOSTLY PRISTINE FOREST AND PRIMARY WATERSHED IN AN OTHERWISE URBAN SETTING. FOR OVER 40 YEARS LOCAL RESIDENTS AND KITSAP COUNTY OFFICIALS HAVE SOUGHT TO PRESERVE PORTIONS OF THIS UNIQUE AREA FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS. THE ILLAHEE FOREST PRESERVE FEATURES WALKING TRAILS, AS WELL AS A PICNIC SHELTER AND PICNIC AREAS.
THE ORGANIZATION MADE 20 ADDITIONAL GRANTS DURING THE CURRENT FISCAL YEAR TO SUPPORT A VARIETY OF KITSAP COUNTY NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS AND PROGRAMS: 1) $9,000 GRANT TO THE ADMIRAL THEATRE TO SUPPORT ITS EDUCATION PROGRAMS; 2) $6,000 GRANT TO THE KITSAP HUMANE SOCIETY IN SUPPORT OF ITS PROGRAMS; 3) GRANTS TOTALING $27,805 TO A VARIETY OF OTHER KITSAP COUNTY AND NATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS: BREMERTON SYMPONY, ABRAHAM'S HOUSE, COFFEE OASIS, BACKPACK BRIGADE, MANETTE BUSINESS ASSOCIATION, ENOCH CITY ARTS, AND BABY DIAPER.
THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDED A $32,000 GRANT TO THE BREMERTON PARKS AND RECREATION TO SUPPORT DEVELOPMENT OF PERMANENT PICKLE BALL COURTS IN KITSAP COUNTY. THE $32,000 GRANT ENABLED THE ORGANIZATION TO CONVERT EXISTING TENNIS COURTS INTO PICKLE BALL COURTS. PICKLE BALL HAS BECOME INCREASINGLY POPULAR IN KITSAP COUNTY, AND THE PARKS DEPARTMENT WILL BE ABLE TO HOST PICKLE BALL COMPETITIONS, WHICH WILL BETTER SERVE EXISTING KITSAP COUNTY RESIDENTS AS WELL AS POTENTIALLY BRINGING IN NEW TOURISTS TO KITSAP COUNTY.
