CCST IS AN INDEPENDENT, NON-PARTISAN, NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION THAT MAKES CALIFORNIAS POLICIES STRONGER WITH SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY (S&T). ESTABLISHED AS AN INDEPENDENT SCIENCE ADVISING BODY AT THE REQUEST OF THE STATE LEGISLATURE IN 1988, OUR MISSION IS TO ENGAGE LEADING EXPERTS IN SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY TO ADVISE STATE POLICYMAKERS TO ENSURE THAT CALIFORNIA POLICY IS STRENGTHENED AND INFORMED BY SCIENTIFIC KNOWLEDGE, RESEARCH, AND INNOVATION. CCST'S VISION FOR THE GOLDEN STATE IS THAT CALIFORNIA ENHANCES ITS GLOBAL LEADERSHIP IN SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, AND INNOVATION TO GUIDE OUR STATE, OUR NATION, AND OUR WORLD TOWARDS A HEALTHY ECONOMY, SOCIETY, AND ENVIRONMENT. FOR THE PAST THREE DECADES, CCST'S APPROACH TO PARTNERING AND FACILITATING DIALOGUE ACROSS INSTITUTIONS AND DISCIPLINES HAS ALLOWED US TO CREATE A COLLECTIVE IMPACT THAT EXCEEDS WHAT ANY SINGLE INSTITUTION COULD ACCOMPLISH ON ITS OWN. FOR THE PAST DECADE, CCST HAS ALSO WORKED WITH GOVERNMENT AND PHILANTHROPIC PARTNERS TO PREPARE SCIENTISTS AND ENGINEERS FOR PUBLIC SERVICE THROUGH OUR S&T POLICY FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM. IN 2020, CCST LAUNCHED A FIVE-YEAR PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP TO MOBILIZE S&T EXPERTISE ACROSS CALIFORNIAS EXTRAORDINARY RESEARCH AND INNOVATION ENTERPRISE TO DELIVER SCIENCE-DRIVEN RECOMMENDATIONS FOR INCREASING RESILIENCE TO COMPLEX AND INTERSECTING DISASTERS.AS CALIFORNIAS FUTURE UNFOLDS, CCST WILL PLAY A LEADING ROLE IN HARNESSING SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY TO SHAPE POLICIES THAT ADDRESS THE DISPROPORTIONATE IMPACT OF NATURAL AND MAN-MADE DISASTERS AND OTHER THREATS TO DIVERSE COMMUNITIES THROUGHOUT OUR STATE.
