BERKELEY ATHLETIC FUND PROVIDES FINANCIAL SUPPORT TO THE BERKELEY HIGH ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT, SPORTS TEAMS, AND COACHES.

Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

Part 3 - Line 4a

BERKELEY ATHLETIC FUND (BAF) ACCEPTS DONATIONS AND SEEKS FUNDS TO SUPPORT BERKELEY HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT ATHLETES, COACHES AND ATHLETIC DIRECTORS. FUNDING PROVIDED BY THE SCHOOL DISTRICT FOR THE ATHLETIC TEAMS AND PROGRAMS DOES NOT ALWAYS COVER THE TOTAL COSTS OF THE THINGS TEAMS NEED TO BE SAFE, PERFORM AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL AND PROUDLY REPRESENT BERKELEY HIGH. EACH YEAR BAF CONTRIBUTES TO THE SUCCESS OF OUR STUDENT ATHLETES BY PROVIDING FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR ATHLETIC EQUIPMENT, UNIFORMS, TOURNAMENT EXPENSES, TEAM BUILDING ACTIVITIES, AND CONTINUING EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR COACHES. BAF SPONSORS ONE SPECIAL FUNDRAISING EVENT EACH YEAR, A GOLF TOURNAMENT. OTHER REVENUE IS SOUGHT THROUGH EMAIL CAMPAIGNS, BOOSTER NIGHTS, AND MERCHANDISE SALES AMONG OTHER THINGS.

BERKELEY ATHLETIC FUND (BAF) BUDGETS FUNDS EACH YEAR TO SUPPORT ATHLETIC TEAMS FOR SPECIAL SITUATIONS OR UNEXPECTED EXPENSES THAT ANY TEAM'S SPECIFIC FUND-RAISING MAY NOT ACCOMMODATE. IN 2022-23 BAF PROVIDED FUNDS TO THE FOLLOWING TEAMS: CREW (TRANSPORTATION ASSISTANCE AT NATIONAL COMPETITION), TRACK AND FIELD (NEW POLE VAULT PIT), SWIMMING EQUIPMENT (OLD AND MOLDY) AND BOYS AND GIRLS TENNIS (RENT FOR COURTS SINCE BSH DOESN'T HAVE ANY). EACH TEAM TAKES RESPONSIBILITY FOR DOING FUND-RAISING SPECIFIC TO THEIR SPORT. THE ADDITIONAL BAF SUPPORT PROVIDED TO A TEAM IS CONTINGENT ON THE TEAM USING SOME OF THEIR OWN TEAM-SPECIFIC FUNDRAISING MONEY AS PART OF THE EXPENSE.

BERKELEY ATHLETIC FUND FUNDRAISES TO AUGMENT THE MEAGER WAGES PAID TO ASSISTANT AND FRESHMAN COACHES BY THE BERKELEY UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT. THESE FUNDS INCREASE BERKELEY HIGH SCHOOL'S ABILITY TO RECRUIT AND RETAIN QUALITY COACHES WHICH ENHANCES THE STUDENT ATHLETE EXPERIENCE. BAF SPONSORS ONE SPECIAL FUNDRAISING EVENT, A GOLF TOURNAMENT. OTHER DONATIONS ARE COLLECTED IN VARIOUS WAYS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. SEE PSA#1.
