Describe the Organization's Mission:
Part 3 - Line 1
THE LAKE TAHOE SECRET WITNESS PROGRAM IS A NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION CREATED TO BE THE EXTRA EYES AND EARS IN OUR COMMUNITY TO HELP LAW ENFORCEMENT WITH PUT A STOP TO ON-GOING CRIMINAL ACTIVITY. IT WAS DEVELOPED AS THE RESULT OF THE SENSELESS KILLING OF A LOCAL TEENAGE DURING AN ARMED ROBBERY BACK IN THE EARLY 80'S AT A LOCAL GAS STATION. THIS PROGRAM ALLOWS CONCERNED CITIZENS TO CALL A LOCAL NUMBER AND ANONYMOUSLY LEAVE INFORMATION THAT COULD POSSIBLY RESULT IN THE ARREST AND CONVICTION OF THE PERPETRATORS COMMITTING THESE CRIMES. THE CALLER IS GIVEN A CODE NUMBER. IF THERE IS AN ARREST AND CONVICTION FOR A CRIME THAT IS REPORTED, THE PERSON THAT CALLED WOULD BE ABLE TO RECEIVE A MONETARY AWARD UP TO $2500. THE DISTRIBUTION OF THESE FUNDS IS DICTATED ON WHAT TYPE OF CRIME IS COMMITTED, IF THE CALLER PRESENTS HIS/HER SECRET CODE NUMBER AND IF THERE IS AN ARREST AND CONVICTION. THERE IS NO TIMETABLE AS THIS PROGRAM WILL CONTINUE AS LONG AS THERE ARE FUNDS AVAILABLE.
