AGT'S PURPOSE IS TO PROMOTE COOPERATION AND EXCHANGE OF INFORMATION AMOUNG THOSE ENGAGED IN CLASSICAL CYTOGENETICS, MOLECULAR AND BIOCHEMICAL GENETICS, AND TO STIMULATE INTEREST IN GENETICS AS A CAREER.

THE OFFICIAL JOURNAL OF ASSOCIATION OF GENETIC TECHNOLOGISTS IS PUBLISHED FOUR TIMES A YEAR. THE PUBLICATION FEATURES ORIGINAL SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH, TECHNICAL ADVANCES IN THE AREAS OF CYTOGENETICS, MOLECULAR CYTOGENETICS AND BIOCHEMICAL GENETICS.
EDUCATION MATERIALS RELATED TO THE FIELD ARE OFFERED FOR NOMINAL FEES. THESE EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS INCLUDE: JOURNAL CLUB, TEST YOURSELF, SALARY SURVEY RESULTS, THE AGT CYTOGENETIC LABORATORY, MOLECULAR BIOLOGY TECHNIQUES, REVIEW GUIDE CD, TECHNICAL MANUAL, AND CYTOGENETICS SYMPOSIA.
AGT HOLDS AN ANNUAL MEETING EACH YEAR. THE MEETING PROVIDES OPPORTUNITIES TO DEVELOP PROFESSIONAL CONTACTS IN THE EVER-EXPANDING AREA OF CLINICAL AND RESEARCH GENETICS. THE PROGRAM OFFERS CONTINUING EDUCATION SESSIONS WITH DIVERSE TOPICS THAT PROVIDE EDUCATIONAL INFORMATION REGARDING THE TRENDS AND ADVANCES WITHIN THE PROFESSION. SESSIONS ALSO DISCUSS THE CHANGES IN THE HEALTH CARE ENVIRONMENT AND PROVIDE KNOWLEDGE TO COPE WITH INCREASE IN TESTING VOLUME INNOVATION, AUTOMATION, ACQUIRING RESOURCES AND MAINTAINING QUALITY STANDARDS IN A SAFE AND PLEASANT WORK ENVIRONMENT.
