OUR MISSION IS TO PROVIDE UNDER-SERVED YOUTH AND ADULTS WITH EDUCATION, JOB TRAINING, AND PLACEMENT OPPORTUNITIES FOR THEM TO ACHIEVE ECONOMIC SELF- RELIANCE.

ADULT JOB & CAREER READINESS SACRAMENTO WORKS JOB CENTER IS HERE TO HELP CLIENTS FIND THEIR NEXT JOB. THE CENTER OFFERS JOB-PREPARATION TRAINING INCLUDING RESUME BUILDING, DRESSING FOR SUCCESS, JOB SEARCH AND INTERVIEW TECHNIQUES. THE SWJC STAFFS OFFERS CLIENTS IN-DEPTH ONE-ON-ONE JOB ASSISTANCE FROM DEVELOPING EMPLOYMENT PLANS, CAREER COUNSELING, TO PRE- VOCATIONAL AND POST JOB SERVICES. CLIENTS HAVE ACCESS TO EMPLOYER RECRUITMENT EVENTS, JOB ANNOUNCEMENTS, AND YOUTH EMPLOYMENT SERVICES. THE CENTER ALSO RECOGNIZES THE DIGITAL DIVIDE AND THEREFORE OFFERS CLIENTS ACCESS TO TECHNOLOGY LIKE FAX, COPIERS,TELEPHONES, AND COMPUTERS TO COMPLETE ASSESSMENTS, ONLINE APPLICATIONS, AND TYPING TESTS. FOR THOSE CLIENTS THAT NEED ADDITIONAL HELP, STAFF PROVIDES ONE-ON-ONE COMPUTER ASSISTANCE.
QUALITY OF LIFEBLACK CHILD LEGACY CAMPAIGN (BCLC) IS A COMMUNITY-DRIVEN MOVEMENT ESTABLISHED TO REDUCE DEATH RATES AMONG BLACK CHILDREN BY 10% TO 20% BY THE YEAR 2020 IN SACRAMENTO COUNTY. GSULS CIL HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH PREVENTION AND INTERVENTION EFFORTS. THE FOUR FOCUS AREAS INCLUDE PERINATAL CONDITIONS, INFANT SAFE SLEEP, CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT, AND THIRD-PARTY HOMICIDE. GSULS HOUSING AND COUNSELING SERVICES FOCUS ON INTRODUCING YOUTH AND ADULTS TO BANKING INCLUDING MONEY MANAGEMENT. THE PROGRAM TEACHES WAYS TO FORESTALL MORTGAGE DEFAULT, DELINQUENCY AND FORECLOSURE. LASTLY, GSUL PROMOTES HOMEOWNERSHIP TO POTENTIAL FIRST-TIME HOME BUYERS.
YOUTH EMPOWERED FOR SUCCESS(YES) OUT OF SCHOOL YOUTH (OSY) PROVIDES INDIVIDUALIZED SERVICES IN LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT, COMMUNITY SERVICE, LIFE SKILLS, AND REVELANT WORK EXPERIENCE AND OCCUPATIONAL SKILLS TO LOW INCOME 18-24 YEAR OLDS. OSY AIMS TO TEACH YOUNG ADULTS HOW TO BE SUCCESFUL IN SCHOOL, ON THE JOB, AND ULTIMATELY IN LIFE. TRAIN STRONG IS A PARTNERSHIP WITH MAYOR STEINBERGS OFFICE WHICH AIMS TO BOOST SACRAMENTOS ECONOMIC PROSPERITY TO CREATE A POOL OF SKILLED, EXPERIENCED YOUNG TALENT. THE YEAR LONG, PAID INTERNSHIP PROGRAM MATCHES YOUNG, TALENTED STUDENTS WITH BUSINESS AND THEN READIES THOSE INTERNS FOR SUCCESS ON THE JOB.
