PROGRAM TITLE: ACADEMIC MENTORSHIP PROGRAM AND FAMILY ENGAGEMENT DESCRIPTION: PROVIDED MENTORSHIP AND ACADEMIC SUPPORT TO AFRICAN AMERICAN STUDENTS TO IMPROVE GRADES, ENHANCE COLLEGE READINESS, AND FOSTER A SENSE OF BELONGING. DELIVERED WEEKLY ONE-ON-ONE MENTORING SESSIONS AND BI-MONTHLY WORKSHOPS FOCUSED ON ACADEMIC SKILLS, CAREER PLANNING, AND SELF-CONFIDENCE. NUMBER OF PERSONS BENEFITED: 20 STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES. IMPACT: 85% OF STUDENTS REPORTED IMPROVED ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE, AND 60% SHOWED AN INCREASE IN GPA BY ONE LETTER GRADE OR MORE. ADDITIONALLY, WE PROVIDED CULTURAL ENRICHMENT AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITIES BY ORGANIZING EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES THAT CELEBRATED AFRICAN AMERICAN CULTURE, BUILT COMMUNITY COHESION, AND EMPOWERED STUDENTS AND FAMILIES. EVENTS INCLUDED BLACK HISTORY MONTH CELEBRATIONS AND COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS SUCH AS OUR BACK TO SCHOOL, SCHOOL SUPPLY GIVEAWAY. NUMBER OF PERSONS BENEFITED: 300 ATTENDEES ACROSS ALL EVENTS. IMPACT: INCREASED STUDENT PARTICIPATION BY 20% AND IMPROVED FAMILY ENGAGEMENT THROUGH COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS WITH LOCAL SCHOOLS AND ORGANIZATIONS.
