THE PURPOSE OF HCAO IS TO EDUCATE ABOUT AND ADVOCATE FOR AN EQUITABLE, AFFORDABLE, COMPREHENSIVE, HIGH-QUALITY PUBLICLY FUNDED UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE SYSTEM THAT WILL IMPROVE THE LIVES OF INDIVIDUALS, FAMILIES, AND COMMUNITIES ACROSS OREGON AND THROUGHOUT THE UNITED STATES

IN 2021, THROUGH COMMUNITY EDUCATION AND ENGAGEMENT EFFORTS, HCAO CONTINUED TO INCREASE AWARENESS OF THE INEQUITIES OF THE CURRENT HEALTHCARE SYSTEM AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE PUBLIC AND ITS MEMBERS TO HAVE A VOICE IN ADDRESSING THESE INEQUITIES. DURING THE COVID LOCKDOWN, HCAO USED ITS SOCIAL MEDIA AND ON LINE PRESENCE TO BRING EDUCATIONAL INFORMATION TO INDIVIDUALS, COMMUNITIES, ORGANIZATIONS AND BUSINESSES ACROSS THE STATE. HCAO INSTRUCTED ITS MEMBERS AND THE PUBLIC ABOUT PROCESS FOR ENGAGING WITH THE JOINT TASK FORCE ON UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE. HCAO CONTINUED TO GROW ITS INFORMATIONAL NETWORK WITH INCREASED MEMBERSHIP, INCREASED BUSINESS ALLIES, AND COLLABORATION WITH OREGON HEALTH FORUM. HCAO ALSO COUNTS AMONG ITS ACCOMPLISHMENTS: A COMPREHENSIVE MONTHLY INFORMATIONAL NEWSLETTER, ASSISTING IN A VIRTUAL NATIONAL STRATEGY CONFERENCE, AS WELL AS EDUCATING MEMBERS OF CHAPTERS, FAITH GROUPS, AND UNIONS AROUND THE STATE. WE ALSO CONTINUED TO DIVERSIFY OUR BOARD IN ALIGNMENT WITH HCAOS EQUITY PRINCIPLE. HCAO PARTICIPATED IN THE ADVOCACY EFFORTS TO HAVE THE OREGON LEGISLATURE REFER A CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT TO THE OREGON VOTERS TO ESTABLISH AN OBLIGATION OF STATE TO ENSURE EVERY RESIDENT OF STATE ACCESS TO COST-EFFECTIVE, CLINICALLY APPROPRIATE AND AFFORDABLE HEALTH CARE.
