TRANSPORTATION POLICY EDUCATION AND AWARENESS ACROSS PORTLAND METRO REGION: EDUCATE AND BRING AWARENESS TO THE NEED FOR WALKING AS A TRANSPORTATION, PUBLIC HEALTH, AND CLIMATE ISSUE. PROMOTE POLICY AND INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVEMENTS TO MAKE WALKING SAFE, CONVENIENT AND ATTRACTIVE FOR EVERYONE. 450 VOLUNTEER HOURS AND 20 ADVOCACY ACTIONS.
NEIGHBORWALKS: NEIGHBORWALKS IS A COLLABORATIVE COMMUNITY WALKING PROGRAM BROUGHT TO YOU BY AARP OREGON, CITY OF PORTLAND BUREAU OF TRANSPORTATION AND OREGON WALKS. OUR VISION IS TO GET MORE PEOPLE WALKING EVERY DAY FOR HEALTH, TRANSPORTATION, ENVIRONMENT, AND COMMUNITY. WALKS TAKE PLACE IN NEIGHBORHOODS IN AND AROUND PORTLAND. EACH WALK IS DEVELOPED AND LED BY AARP VOLUNTEER LEADERS WITH SUPPORT FROM COMMUNITY PARTNERS. WALKS ARE DESIGNED TO BE INTERGENERATIONAL AND CELEBRATE COMMUNITY FOR ALL AGES AND ABILITIES.
STEPTEMBER: STEPTEMBER IS A MONTH-LONG SERIES OF COMMUNITY WALKS, DISCUSSIONS AND EDUCATION ACROSS THE PORTLAND METRO REGION, AIMED AT ENCOURAGING SAFE, HEALTHY AND CONNECTED COMMUNITIES THROUGH WALKING. 30 WALK EVENTS FOR 750+ WALKERS.
WE WALK: THIS PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS THE NEED FOR BLACK PEOPLE TO FEEL SAFE WALKING IN THE PUBLIC RIGHT OF WAY OR ON TRAILS AND RECREATIONAL SPACES IN OREGON. THE NEED FOR BLACK PORTLANDERS TO RECLAIM THEIR SPACE ALONG PEDESTRIAN WALKWAYS HAS BEEN DOCUMENTED BY PBOT (PEDPDX: WALKING WHILE BLACK REPORT) AND BY THE EXPERIENCES SHARED BY BLACK PORTLANDERS (WALK THE TALK, TALK THE WALK: AFFINITY GROUPS). THIS PROGRAM IS SUPPORTED BY METRO AND MULTNOMAH COUNTY.
