AS THE ONLY PRESENTER OF PROFESSIONAL OPERA SERVING CALIFORNIA'S CENTRAL COAST, OUR COMPANY'S DIVERSE REPERTOIRE INCLUDES POPULAR OPERA FAVORITES, LESSER KNOWN CLASSICS, AND CONTEMPORARY AMERICAN OPERAS. OPERA SB'S 2020 SEASON WAS MODIFIED IN RESPONSE TO CONTINUING COVID-19 MANDATED CLOSURES. OPERA SANTA BARBARA WAS ONE OF ONLY TWO CALIFORNIA OPERA COMPANIES TO PRESENT THREE LIVE OPERAS IN THE 2020-21 SEASON, INCLUDING TWO DRIVE-IN PRODUCTIONS AND A FULLY STAGED INDOOR PERFORMANCE OF WAGNER'S DAS RHEINGOLD, LESS THAN TWO WEEKS AFTER THE STATES REOPENING OF THEATERS IN JUNE 2021.
SEE SCHEDULE OEDUCATION & OUTREACH. OPERA SB WAS OBLIGATED TO SUSPEND ALL ITS IN SCHOOL PROGRAMS IN THE 2020-21 SEASON, DUE TO SCHOOL CLOSURES AND CONTINUING UNCERTAINTY REGARDING THE PANDEMIC. OUR COMMUNITY OUTREACH FOCUS WAS SWITCHED TO ACTIVE ADVOCACY EFFORTS FOR THE SAFE REOPENING OF PERFORMANCE VENUES, AND REVITALIZING THE LIVE MUSIC SCENE IN SANTA BARBARA. OUR "OPERATION EURYDICE ORGANIZED AND FUNDED DOZENS OF SAFE OUTDOOR PERFORMANCES PURSUANT TO STATE AND COUNTY HEALTH GUIDELINES, SHOWCASING LOCAL MUSICIANS IN A VARIETY OF STYLES INCLUDING JAZZ, FOLK, POP, ROCK, WORLD MUSIC, AND MORE, ALONGSIDE SIGNATURE EVENTS LIKE "OPERA SB SINGS FOR YOU", "OPERA IN THE PARK", AND OPERA/MUSIC THEATER EVENTS AT RESTAURANTS, BARS, AND OTHER SUCH VENUES THAT WERE PERMITTED TO OFFER LIVE ENTERTAINMENT.
SEE SCHEDULE OCHRISMAN STUDIO ARTISTS. OPERA SANTA BARBARA DEVELOPS THE NEXT GENERATION OF OPERA SINGERS BY PROVIDING MAINSTAGE PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES AND VALUABLE TRAINING TO SOME OF AMERICA'S MOST TALENTED YOUNG ARTISTS. OPERA SANTA BARBARA WAS ONE OF FEW AMERICAN COMPANIES TO HOST AN IN-PERSON RESIDENCE OF FOUR YOUNG ARTISTS IN THE PERIOD JANUARY THROUGH JUNE 2021. THE FOUR CHRISMAN STUDIO ARTISTS BECAME WIDELY KNOWN IN THE COMMUNITY THROUGH THEIR PERFORMANCES IN A VARIETY OF PUBLIC VENUES, COVERED ROLES IN THE DRIVE IN PRODUCTION OF DON PASQUALE IN APRIL, AND THEY WERE FEATURED IN THE PRODUCTION OF DAS RHEINGOLD ON JUNE 2021. ADDITIONALLY THEY RECORDED DOZENS OF HOURS OF ONLINE CONTENT WHICH WAS DISTRIBUTED THROUGH THE COMPANY'S MEDIA CHANNELS.
