SANTA CRUZ SHAKESPEARE'S OUTDOOR THEATRE FESTIVAL IS A TREASURED 39-YEAR TRADITION IN THE COUNTY, ATTRACTING MULTI-GENERATIONAL LOCAL THEATERGOERS TO A SHARED EXPERIENCE OF EXCEPTIONAL CLASSICAL THEATRE THAT PROVIDES A CANVAS TO EXPLORE, QUESTION, AND CELEBRATE THE POLITICAL, SOCIAL, AND HUMAN CONDITION. IN 2021 SANTA CRUZ SHAKESPEARE PRODUCED A REDUCED SUMMER SEASON WHICH INCLUDED THE AGITATORS BY MAT SMART AND RII BY JESSICA KUBZANSKY. WITH CAPACITY LIMITED DUE TO COVID-19 TO LESS THAN 50% OF REGULAR CAPACITY, SCS ATTRACTED MORE THAN 7500 ATTENDEES TO THE SUMMER FESTIVAL. SCS ALSO PRODUCED THE UNDISCOVERED SHAKESPEARE READING SERIES WITH A THREE PART EXPLORATION OF TROILUS & CRESSIDA. THIS PROGRAM PRESENTED OVER ZOOM IN PARTNERSHIP WITH UCSC, THE HUMANITIES INSTITUTE AND THE SHAKESPEARE WORKSHOP, WAS FREE TO THE PUBLIC AS ALWAYS. AS A FREE EDUCATIONAL RESOURCE, SCS ALSO DEVELOPED ONLINE STUDY GUIDES AND LESSON PLANS ON SEVERAL SHAKESPEARE PLAYS ACCESSIBLE TO EDUCATORS AND STUDENTS THROUGHOUT THE REGION AND THE COUNTRY.
