THE MARINE EXCHANGE OF ALASKA'S MISSION STATEMENT IS TO PROVIDE THE ALASKA MARITIME COMMUNITY INFORMATION, COMMUNICATIONS AND SERVICES TO AID SAFE, SECURE, EFFICIENT AND ENVIRONMENTALLY RESPONSIBLE MARITIME OPERATIONS.

THE MARINE EXCHANGE HAS BROUGHT ONLINE AND OPERATES OVER 100 AIS (AUTOMATIC IDENTIFICATION SYSTEM) RECEIVERS IN ALASKA AS WELL AS A SATELLITE TRACKING SYSTEM THAT EXTENDS FROM BARROW, WEST TO ADAK AND SOUTH TO KETCHIKAN. THE SYSTEM TRACKS TANKERS, CONTAINERSHIPS, CRUISE SHIPS, FERRIES, TUGS AND BARGES, FISHING VESSELS AND SMALL PASSENGER VESSELS TO AID SAFE, SECURE, EFFICIENT AND ENVIRONMENTALLY RESPONSIBLE MARITIME OPERATIONS. THE SYSTEM HAS BEEN USED TO MONITOR CRUISE SHIP COMPLIANCE WITH WASTE DISCHARGE REGULATIONS AND SPEED RESTRICTIONS TO MINIMIZE WHALE STRIKES, THE COAST GUARD'S RESPONSE TO MARITIME EMERGENCIES (MAN OVERBOARD AND VESSEL SINKINGS), OIL SPILL RESPONSES, COORDINATION OF SECURITY MEASURES AND THE EFFICIENT DISPATCH OF PILOTS, AGENTS AND MARINE FACILITY PERSONNEL.

THE MARINE EXCHANGE CONTINUES TO PROVIDE VESSEL OPERATORS, INCLUDING THE ALASKA MARINE HIGHWAY SYSTEM, WITH UP TO DATE "PRINT ON DEMAND" CHARTS AS WELL AS NAVIGATION PUBLICATIONS TO AID MARITIME SAFETY AND DISSEMINATES REGULATORY AND SAFETY INFORMATION VIA PERIODIC NEWSLETTERS AND AN INFORMATIONAL WEB SITE.
