ELECTRONIC RECYCLING - THE ORGANIZATION RECEIVES ELECTRONICS COLLECTED BY THE FAIRBANKS NORTH STAR BOROUGH CENTRAL RECYCLING FACILITY AND ORGANIZES VOLUNTEERS TO SORT THE EQUIPMENT FOR REUSE OR SHIPMENT TO ELECTRONIC RECYCLERS THAT EMPLOY ENVIRONMENTALLY SOUND RECYCLING PRACTICES. GREEN STAR PARTNERS WITH LOCAL AND NATIONAL COMPANIES TO REUSE ANY ELECTRONICS THAT ARE STILL IN GOOD WORKING ORDER. MORE THAN 100 TONS OF ELECTRONIC WASTES ARE RECYCLED ANNUALLY. THE ORGANIZATION ALSO ORGANIZES THE BACK-HAUL COLLECTION OF OVER 10 TONS ANNUALLY OF ELECTRONICS FROM MORE THAN 10 DIFFERENT INTERIOR ALASKA VILLAGES FOR RECYCLING.


EVENT RECYCLING - THE ORGANIZATION PARTNERS WITH COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS TO PROVIDE RECYCLING BINS AT COMMUNITY EVENTS, SUCH AS FAIRS AND FESTIVALS, AND COORDINATES VOLUNTEERS WHO COLLECT AND SORT RECYCLABLE MATERIALS. THE ORGANIZATION ALSO HOSTS EVENTS ENCOURAGING RECYCLING, SUCH AS THE SWAP-O- RAMA, WHICH ENCOURAGES THE SWAPPING OF ITEMS, THEREBY KEEPING ITEMS OUT OF THE WASTE STREAM. VOLUNTEERS ALSO ASSIST WITH COMMUNITY CLEAN UP DAY.


EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH - PUBLISH AND DISTRIBUTE FAIRBANKS RECYCLING GUIDES. DEVELOPED ROBUST RECYCLING CURRICULUM KITS FOR USE IN THE FAIRBANKS NORTH STAR BOROUGH SCHOOL DISTRICT'S MIDDLE SCHOOLS TO EDUCATE STUDENTS ON THE IMPORTANCE OF RECYCLING AND ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP.
