FOUNDED IN 2002, ART AIDS ART UTILIZES THE ARTS TO FACILIATATE EDUCATI0ON,HEALTH, AND SUSTAINABLE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN SOUTH AFRICA.IN 2008, ART AIDS ART ESTABLISHED EKHAYA EKASI, AN ART AND EDUCATION CENTER IN KHAYELITSHA, NEAR CAPE TOWN. THE CENTER HOSTS AFTER-SCHOOL AND SENIOR PROGRAMS AS WELL AS SMALL BUSINESS TRAINING AND SKILL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPS FOR WOMEN. AIDS EDUCATION AND HEALTH ACCESS ARE INTEGRATED INTO ALL PROGRAMMING.IN ADDITION, EKHAYA EKASI'S MICRO-ENTERPRISES CREATE EMPLOYMENT AND GENERATE LOCAL INCOME. ACHIEVING SELF-SUFFICIENCY ENABLES WOMEN TO SUPPORT THEIR HOUSEHOLDS, SEND THEIR CHILDREN TO SCHOOL AND AVOID RISKY PRACTICES SUCH AS TRADING SEX FOR FOOD AND SHELTER.
