HONOLULU BIENNIAL FOUNDATION DBA HAWAII CONTEMPORARY("HC") SUPPORTS THE LOCAL ARTS INFRASTRUCTURE WITH A GLOBAL OUTREACH BY PRESENTING AN ARTS FESTIVAL, HAWAII TRIENNIAL, EVERY THREE YEARS.

IN 2021-2022 FIVE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FELLOWSHIPS WERE AWARDED WITH STIPENDS TO COVER A FOUR-MONTH PERFORMANCE PERIOD TO SUPPORT THE PREPARATION OF HT22.THE NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION'S SIGNATURE CITYWIDE EVENT IN HONOLULU, THE HAWAI'I TRIENNIAL 2022 (HT22), WAS A WELL-RECEIVED SUCCESS, FEATURING CONTEMPORARY ARTWORKS BY 43 ARTISTS AND ART COLLECTIVES EXHIBITED AT SEVEN SITES ACROSS O'AHU ISLAND AND SEEN BY 100,603 VISITORS OVER 11 WEEKS, AS WELL AS PROVIDING 111 PUBLIC PROGRAMS THAT ENGAGED GENERAL ATTENDEES AND OVER 18,825 KEIKI AND STUDENTS. ATTRACTING LOCAL AND INTERNATIONAL VISITORS ALIKE, OVER 30% OF ATTENDEES WERE FROM OUT-OF-STATE AND COUNTRY, BASED ON THE HT22 VISITOR SURVEY. THE HAWAI'I TRIENNIAL HAD AN ECONOMIC IMPACT OF $60.8M ON OUR LOCAL ECONOMY BASED ON AVERAGE DOLLARS SPENT PER PERSON BY OUT OF STATE VISITORS TO HAWAI'I (DATA PROVIDED BY HAWAI'I TOURISM AUTHORITY), AS WELL AS GENERATED $1.7M FROM HAWAII RESIDENT ATTENDEES AND 133.7 FULL-TIME EQUIVALENT JOBS ACCORDING TO THE AMERICAN FOR THE ARTS PROSPERITY IV CALCULATIONS FOR NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION EXPENDITURES. HT22 WAS PUBLICLY OPEN FEBRUARY 18 - MAY 8 2022 FOR 11 WEEKS. EXPENDITURES FOR HT22 TOTALED $4.04 MILLION OVER A THREE-YEAR CYCLE. WE RAISED MORE THAN $3 MILLION IN CASH AND RECEIVED SOME $1.06 MILLION IN IN-KIND DONATIONS FROM OUR GENEROUS SUPPORTERS. FUNDS RAISED SUPPORTED THE RESEARCH, PLANNING, AND PRODUCTION OF HT22, INCLUDING ARTWORK LOANS, SITE-RESPONSIVE INSTALLATIONS, PERFORMANCES, AND PARTICIPATORY PROJECTS; THE DEVELOPMENT AND PRODUCTION OF A 284-PAGE HARDCOVER PUBLICATION; AND THE PRESENTATION OF PUBLIC PROGRAMS WITH ARTISTS AND SCHOLARS.
