THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST TRAIL ASSOCIATION (PNTA), VIA AGREEMENT WITH THE US FOREST SERVICE, PROVIDES SERVICES TO PROTECT AND PROMOTE THE CONGRESSIONALLY DESIGNATED PACIFIC NORTHWEST NATION SCENIC TRAIL (PNNST). THE PNNST IS A 1,200 MILE TRAIL FROM THE CONTINENTAL DIVIDE AT GLACIER NATIONAL PARK, MONTANA TO THE PACIFIC OCEAN AT CAPE ALAVA IN THE OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK IN WASHINGTON STATE. THE PNTA PERFORMS COMMUNICATION SERVICES TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC, TRAIL USERS, EXTERNAL PARTIES AND LEADS TRAIL MANAGEMENT AND VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS SUPPORTING THE PNNST.
THE PNTA COLLABORATES WITH THE US FOREST SERVICE IN THE FORMATION OF PARTNERSHIPS TO DEVELOP PACIFIC NORTHWEST NATIONAL SCENIC TRAIL MEDIA. THE ASSOCIATION RESPONDS TO INQUIRIES, PROVIDES UP-TO-DATE PNNST INFORMTAION ON ITS WEB SITE PNT.ORG, FACEBOOK, EMAIL, NEWSLETTERS, HIKER FORUMS, AND PRESENTATION TO COMMUNITY GROUPS. PNTA PROVIDES ADVOCACY AT THE LOCAL AND NATIONAL LEVEL TO ENSURE PROTECTION AND ENHANCEMENT OF SCENIC VALUES AND QUALITY TRAIL OPPORTUNITIES.
THE PTNA PERFORMS TRAIL MAINTENANCE ON THE PNNST AND CONNECTING TRAILS, REPAIRING, CONSTRUCTING, AND MAINTAINING THE TRAIL, TRAIL STRUCTURES, AND SIGNAGE. PNTA COORDINATES OTHER VOLUNTEER CREWS IN SUPPORT OF AUTHORIZED WORK PLANS ON PUBLIC AND PRIVATE LANDS.
