THE WASHINGTON COUNCIL AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF ARCHITECTS (AIA-WA) SERVES AS THE COLLECTIVE VOICE FOR AND A RESOURCE ON STATE GOVERNMENT POLICIES THAT IMPACT THE PRACTICE OF ARCHITECTURE FOR ALL ARCHITECTS AND THE PROFESSION THROUGH AIA COMPONENTS IN WASHINGTON STATE. THE PRIMARY GOAL IS TO SERVE THE COMMON INTERESTS OF OVER 3,000 WASHINGTON ARCHITECTS.

MEMBER ADVOCACY EVENTS INCLUDING CAPITOL CONNECTIONS WHERE 59 MEMBERS MET WITH 47 LEGISLATORS DURING THE LEGISLATIVE SESSION TO DISCUSS ISSUES AFFECTING THE PRACTICE OF ARCHITECTURE; ADVOCACY IN ACTION WHERE 33 MEMBERS LEARNED ABOUT ADVOCACY AND DISCUSSED THE LEGISLATIVE AGENDA FOR THE ORGANIZATION. MEMBERS SUBMITTED 39 PROJECTS FOR THE ANNUAL CIVIC DESIGN AWARDS AND 13 PROJECTS RECEIVED AWARDS CELEBRATING DESIGN EXCELLENCE FOR PUBLICLY FUNDED PROJECTS IN WASHINGTON STATE. THE BOARD ADVOCATED ON BEHALF OF MEMBERS IN 4 SEPARATE INSTANCES WITH REGARDS TO THE WASHINGTON STATE QUALIFICATIONS BASED SELECTION REGULATIONS WHERE REQUESTS FOR PROPOSAL/QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDED THE REQUIREMENT OF A FEE SCHEDULE OR COST INFORMATION. THE ORGANIZATION ADVOCATED ON BEHALF OF MEMBERS THROUGH VARIOUS PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS AND COALITIONS AND THROUGH IN-PERSON TESTIMONY DURING THE LEGISLATIVE SESSION.
