THE ASSOCIATION HAS THREE PRIMARY PURPOSES: TO WORK FOR THE IMPROVEMENT AND AVAILABILITY OF NURSING STANDARDS AND THE AVAILABILITY OF HEALTH CARE SERVICES FOR ALL PEOPLE, TO FOSTER HIGH STANDARDS OF PROFESSIONAL NURSING AND, TO STIMULATE AND PROMOTE THE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OF NURSES. THE IENA IS A CONSTITUENT OF THE WASHINGTON STATE NURSES ASSOCIATION (WSNA) AND OPERATES IN SPOKANE, PEND OREILLE, STEVENS, LINCOLN, WHITMAN AND ADAMS COUNTIES. THE PURPOSE IS ACCOMPLISHED BY A MYRIAD OF FUNCTIONS INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO: PROMOTING THE STANDARDS OF NURSING, NURSING EDUCATION, NURSING SERVICES, ADHERENCE TO THE ANA CODE OF ETHICS FOR NURSES; PROVIDING FOR CONTINUING DEVELOPMENT OF NURSES; ENCOURAGING RESEARCH IN NURSING AND THE UTILIZATION OF RESEARCH FINDINGS AS A BASIS FOR NURSING PRACTICE; REPRESENTING NURSES AND PROMOTE RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHER HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS AND COMMUNITY LEADERS; ASSUMING AN ACTIVE ROLE AS HEALTH CARE ADVOCATE; PROMOTING THE PROFESSION OF NURSING AS A CAREER. DURING THE YEAR, THERE WERE ABOUT 2100 MEMBERS. MEMBERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE ANNUAL GALA AND LEGISLATIVE RECEPTION ACTIVITIES SPONSORED BY THE ASSOCIATION, AND TO ATTEND WSNA SPONSORED EVENTS. SCHOLARSHIPS ARE AVAILABLE FOR MEMBERS WHO WISH TO ATTEND VARIOUS WSNA SPONSORED EVENTS (EG. WSNA CONVENTION, HALL OF FAME, LEGISLATIVE DAY IN OLYMPIA), AS WELL AS FOR REIMBURSEMENT OF CERTIFICATION EXAM FEES, AND FOR ACADEMIC PURSUITS IN NURSING.
