EAST COUNTY COMMUNITY HEALTH IS A NETWORK THAT BUILDS SUSTAINABLE HEALTH SYSTEMS IN EAST MULTNOMAH COUNTY AND REACHES OUT TO THE COMMUNITY WITH FOOD, RENT, UTILITY PAYMENTS, AND HEALTH EDUCATION. WITH GRANTS FROM THE STATE OF OREGON AND SEVERAL COMMUNITY PARTNERS WE TOOK ON HELPING HUNDREDS OF FAMILIES IN THE COMMUNITY WITH COVID RELIEF AND FOOD DISTRIBUTION. FOR THE YEAR ENDED DECEMBER 31, 2021, A SIGNIFICANT PORTION OF THE WORK PERFORMED THROUGH THE COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAM WAS TO FULFILL THE NEEDS CAUSED BY THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. THE COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAM ALSO ADDRESSES THE CONCERNS AND NEEDS OF THE AREAS IDENTIFIED THROUGH THE COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT PROGRAM.


EAST COUNTY HOUSING (ECH) WORKS TO IMPROVE ACCESS TO ECONOMICAL, SAFE, AND AFFORDABLE HOUSING IN EAST MULTNOMAH COUNTY. ECH MANAGES OUR 75-UNIT APARTMENT BUILDING - THE ROCKWOOD TOWER. CURRENTLY OUR TEAM FACILITATES THE EAST COUNTY HOUSING COLLECTIVE, WHICH ALIGNS GOVERNMENT, PRIVATE COMPANIES AND NON-PROFIT GROUPS TO BETTER RESPOND TO OUR HOUSING CRISIS. HELPS THE CITIZENS OF OUR AREA ENGAGE OUR GOVERNMENT IN MAKING ITS POLICIES AND PRIORITIES MORE RESPONSIVE.


ROCKWOOD FOOD SYSTEMS COLLABORATIVE: THE ROCKWOOD FOOD SYSTEMS COLLABORATIVE USES FOOD, NUTRITIONAL EDUCATION, BUSINESS INCUBATION AND AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT AS TOOLS TO HELP NEIGHBORS ATTAIN BETTER HEALTH OUTCOMES, GREAT EQUITY, MORE PROSPERITY AND A CLEANER ENVIRONMENT. THE PROGRAM SUPPORTS GARDENERS, ENTREPRENEURS, BLACK-OWNED FARMS, AND INDIVIDUAL FAMILIES THROUGH VARIOUS RESOURCES.


SUNRISE CENTER AND KITCHEN: THE ORGANIZATION OPERATES THE SUNRISE CENTER WHICH IS LOCATED IN GRESHAM, OREGON. THE CENTER SERVES AS A COMMUNITY CENTER FOR EAST MULTNOMAH COUNTY PROVIDING A PLACE FOR COMMUNITY GATHERINGS, EVENTS, COWORKING SPACE AND USE OF A COMMERCIAL KITCHEN. OTHER PROGRAMS CONSIST OF COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AND THE ROCKWOOD ENGLISH LANGUAGE INSTITUTE. THE COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT PROGRAM WORKS WITH COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO GAIN AN UNDERSTANDING OF THE MOST CRITICAL NEEDS AND ISSUES WITHIN THE COMMUNITY. THROUGH THE COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT PROGRAM, THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDES SURVEYS, COMMUNITY LISTENING SESSIONS, AND CULTURAL GATHERINGS TO PROVIDE MEMBERS THE OPPORTUNITY FOR THEIR CONCERNS TO BE HEARD. THE PROGRAM THEN DETERMINES THE APPROPRIATE RESOURCES NECESSARY TO MEET THOSE NEEDS THROUGH THE COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAM. THE ROCKWOOD ENGLISH LANGUAGE INSTITUTE (RELI) OFFERS HIGH QUALITY, FREE, ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE INSTRUCTION TO ADULTS WHO HAVE IMMIGRATED OR HAVE REFUGEE STATUS. THERE ARE MORE THAN 90 LANGUAGES SPOKEN WITHIN THE ROCKWOOD COMMUNITY AND MANY OF THE MEMBERS DO NOT HAVE THE SKILLS OR EDUCATION THEY NEED TO SUCCEED. APPROXIMATELY 75% OF STUDENTS WHO ATTEND RELI ARE ABLE TO MOVE ON TO HIGHER EDUCATION.
