THE NC CLIMATE JUSTICE COLLECTIVE CULTIVATES A MULTI-RACIAL, INTERGENERATIONAL GRASSROOTS MOVEMENT ECOSYSTEM TO ADDRESS THE ROOT CAUSES OF CLIMATE CHANGE. USING POPULAR EDUCATION AND CULTURAL ORGANIZING, WE IGNITE SOCIAL TRANSFORMATION. WE CENTER ALL OUR WORK IN THE LEADERSHIP OF YOUTH, BLACK, INDIGENOUS AND PEOPLE OF COLOR, WOMEN, LOW WEALTH PEOPLE, AND LGBTQI+ PEOPLE TO CREATE STRATEGIC ALIGNMENT. WE ARE BRINGING AN END TO FRACKED GAS INFRASTRUCTURE, COAL ASH POLLUTION, INDUSTRIAL AGRICULTURE AND FOREST DESTRUCTION WHILE PLANTING THE SEEDS OF A LIFE-SUSTAINING, REGENERATIVE SOCIETY.

RESILIENCY ORGANIZING HUBS SERVING 20 TIER 1 COUNTIES: THROUGH MONTHLY VIRTUAL TRAININGS AND THREE FOUR-DAY IN PERSON RETREATS, WE SUPPORTED 40 BIPOC LEADERS FROM ALL FIVE OF OUR HUB ANCHORING ORGANIZATIONS TO ENGAGE IN PEER LEARNING AND LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT. WE OFFERED ONGOING CAPACITY BUILDING TO ALL HUB ANCHORING ORGANIZATIONS. WE COORDINATED EFFORTS FOR THREE OF THE HUBS TO APPLY FOR SIGNIFICANT FEDERAL FUNDING.


TAPROOT CULTURE TROUPE'S PROGRAMMING: WROTE, PRODUCED AND PERFORMED A MULTIMEDIA INTERACTIVE THEATER PIECE CALLED FINDING OUR BALANCE. BY COMBINING ORIGINAL SPOKEN WORD, LIVE MUSIC, AND PORTABLE MURALS AND PUPPETS, WE MADE CLIMATE JUSTICE CONCEPTS ACCESSIBLE TO A WIDE RANGE OF AUDIENCES. WE ADAPTED OUR GOOD FIRE SHOW FOR A NATIONAL CONFERENCE.


CLIMATE JUSTICE TRAININGS: ORGANIZED AND PRODUCED OUR SIXTH STATEWIDE NC CLIMATE JUSTICE SUMMIT INCLUDING 221 PARTICIPANTS WHO PARTICIPATED IN 24 INTERACTIVE WORKSHOPS. PROVIDED ONGOING POLITICAL EDUCATION THROUGH OUR MONTHLY VIRTUAL DISCUSSION GROUP. OFFERED TWO TRAININGS ON JUST RECOVERY AT NATIONAL CONFERENCES. CONTINUED TO OFFER WORKSHOPS TO LOCAL PARTNERS IN THE CONCEPT OF CLIMATE VICTORY GARDENS.
