THE ORGANIZATION IS ENGAGED IN ACTIVITIES RELATED TO LOBBYING AND INFORMING MEMBERS OF THE GEORGIA GENERAL ASSEMBLY OTHER ELECTED OFFICIALS AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC AND TO ADVOCATE FOR POLICIES WHICH MAXIMIZE THE AMERICAN PROMISE OF LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO: USE OF RANKED-CHOICE VOTING IN ELECTIONS RIGHT TO REPAIR ADVOCATING FOR FAMILES OF COLD CASE MURDER VICTIMS TO BE ABLE TO APPLY FOR A REVIEW OF CASE FILES CIVIL ASSET FORFEITURE REFORM EDUCATION REFORM AND PROFESSIONAL LICENSING REFORM. THE RCV RANKED CHOICE VOTING ACTIVITY FOR 2023 WAS LARGELY THE SAME AS 2022 EXCEPT THAT ETERNAL VIGILANCE ACTION EVA HAD BEGUN GAINING NATIONAL ATTENTION FOR ITS WORK. THE PRIMARY LEGISLATION ON WHICH EVA WORKED IN GEORGIA WAS GEORGIA HB 200 WHICH WOULD ALLOW CITIES TO USE RCV IN THEIR MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS. THIS WORK LED TO ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES SUCH AS HOSTING A PANEL DISCUSSION AT THE AMERICAN DEMOCRACY SUMMIT IN LOS ANGELES CA SPEAKING AT AN EVENT AT AMERICAN LEGISLATIVE EXCHANGE COUNCIL IN ORLANDO FL HOSTING AN EDUCATIONAL PANEL FEATURING STATE LAWMAKERS FROM BOTH MAJOR PARTIES AND PRODUCING A SERIES OF VIDEOS ABOUT RCV. EVA WAS ALSO REPRESENTED AT SEVERAL OTHER GATHERINGS AND CONFERENCES FOR SNF AGORA JOHN HOPKINS TO DEVELOP THE CONSERVATIVE PRINCIPLES FOR BUILDING TRUST IN ELECTIONS. EVAS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR ALSO TESTIFIED BEFORE CONGRESS ABOUT THE DANGERS OF MISINFORMATION AND DISINFORMATION TO TRUST IN ELECTIONS AS AN INSTITUTION.
MAINTENANCE OF SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNTS; OTHER MISCELLANEOUS DUTIES
EVA ADVOCATED FOR GEORGIA HB 88 ALSO KNOWN AS THE COLEMAN BAKER ACT WHICH WAS SIGNED INTO LAW IN 2023 EFFECTIVE ON JULY 1ST OF 2023. THE ACT GIVES FAMILIES OF HOMICIDE VICTIMS AN AVENUE TO REQUEST THAT A COLD CASE BE REOPENED BY LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES. [AS A SIDE NOTE AS A RESULT OF THE ACT THE AUTHORITIES CAUGHT THE KILLER IN THE CRIME FOR WHICH THE BILL WAS NAMED EARLIER THIS YEAR] . EVA MET WITH CONGRESSIONAL STAFF TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THE FEDERAL COLD CASE LAWS COORDINATED OUR EFFORTS WITH THE PROSECUTING ATTORNEYS COUNCIL GBI GEORGIA POLICE CHIEFS ASSOCIATION GEORGIA SHERIFFS ASSOCIATION GEORGIA DEFENSE ATTORNEYS COUNCIL AND MEMBERS OF THE GEORGIA GENERAL ASSEMBLY AND GOVERNOR KEMPS OFFICE TO DRAFT THE LEGISLATION AND SHEPHERD IT TO BEING SIGNED INTO LAW.
EVA WORKED WITH GEORGIA REPRESENTATIVE WILL WADE ON CIVIL ASSET FORFEITURE REFORM. EVA ALSO WORKED TO REFORM THE CAF REPORTING DATABASE THROUGH NON-LEGISLATIVE EFFORTS. THE WORK ON THIS ISSUE IN 2023 WAS IN PREPARATION FOR A LARGER REFORM EFFORT IN THE FUTURE AND EVA ANTICIPATES GEORGIAS ADOPTION OF A NEW CAF REPORTING SYSTEM IN 2025.
