FAMILY LITERACY CENTERS ASSIST FAMILIES AND INDIVIDUALS LEARN TO EFFECTIVELY READ, WRITE AND COMMUNICATE IN ENGLISH THROUGH ONE-TO-ONE TUTORING ASSISTANCE DELIVERED VIA SELF-INSTRUCTIONAL ON-LINE LEARNING MATERIAL AND FROM TRAINED VOLUNTEERS AND PARENTS. HISTORICALLY, FAMILY LITERACY CENTERS ESTABLISHED BRICK AND MORTAR LEARNING CENTERS IN BOTH RURAL AND URBAN COMMUNITIES ACROSS THE UNITED STATES. BECAUSE OF THE INCREASED REACH PROVIDED BY THE INTERNET, FAMILY LITERACY CENTERS HAS BEEN ABLE TO EXTEND THEIR SERVICES TO MANY OTHER PARTS OF THE WORLD. THESE LEARNING CENTERS HAVE BEEN SUCCESSFULLY ORGANIZED IN A VARIETY OF FACILITIES, INCLUDING PUBLIC LIBRARIES, SENIOR CENTERS, CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES, PUBLIC ASSISTANCE CENTERS, HOMES, AND CHURCHES. WE HELP PARENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES INCREASE THEIR READING AND MATH SKILLS THROUGH THE USE OF MATERIALS AVAILABLE ON-LINE AND WITH VOLUNTEER TUTORS AVAILABLE IN BRICK AND MORTAR CENTERS AS WELL AS WITH PARENTS IN THE HOME. WE ALSO DEVELOP VIDEOS AND OTHER TRAINING MATERIALS TO HELP PARENTS TEACH CHILDREN HOW TO READ, WRITE, AND BECOME SUCCESSFUL IN MATHEMATICS. IN ADDITION WE HELP COMMUNITIES SET UP THEIR OWN CENTERS AND PROVIDE TRAINING AND SUPPORT FOR THEM AS THEY BECOME SUCCESSFUL IN HELPING THE CENTERS TO PRODUCE INDEPENDENT LEARNERS.
