IV.UTAH YOUTH ORCHESTRAS AND ENSEMBLES RETURNED TO NEAR-NORMAL OPERATIONS FOLLOWING COVID IN FISCAL YEAR 2022. THERE WERE 150 YOUTH MUSICIANS, PARTICIPATING IN THREE ORCHESTRAS, LED BY MUSIC DIRECTOR AND CONDUCTOR, BARBARA SCOWCROFT. THE GROUPS COMBINED A TOTAL OF FOUR CONCERTS, WITH OVER 2,500 AUDIENCE PARTICIPANTS. IN JANUARY 2022, THE UTAH YOUTH SYMPHONY AND UTAH YOUTH PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRAS BOTH PRESENTED CONCERTS IN LIBBY GARDNER CONCERT HALL AND THE UTAH YOUTH JUNIOR SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA HELD A CONCERT IN THE FINE ARTS WEST AUDITORIUM ON THE UNIVERSITY OF UTAH CAMPUS. THE COMBINED ORCHESTRAS PERFORMED A CONCERT AT ABRAVANEL HALL ON MAY 14, 2022, WHERE MUSICIANS PERFORMED SYMPHONY NO. 4 BY SHOSTAKOVICH (ORIGINAL, UNEDITED) AS WELL AS A NEW PIECE, BUTTERFLY HOUSE, WRITTEN BY ARLENE SIERRA, WHO WAS THE ARTIST IN ASSOCIATION WITH THE UTAH SYMPHONY IN 2022.
