THE SPECIFIC PURPOSE OF THIS CORPORATION IS TO MAINTAIN AND IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE IN THE CENTRAL SAN JOAQUIN VALLEY BY IMPLEMENTING PROGRAMS THAT PROVIDE ACCESS TO SAFE DRINKING WATER FOR RESIDENTS, AND BY ENGAGING IN ACTIVITIES WITH THE GOAL OF PROTECTING OR ENHANCING THE QUALITY OF GROUNDWATER DRINKING WATER SUPPLIES FOR RESIDENTS IN THE REGION.

THE OUTREACH PROGRAM TO CONTACT RESIDENTS WITH DOMESTIC WELLS THAT MAY BE AFFECTED BY NITRATES WAS IMPLEMENTED IN MAY 2021. THERE WERE FOUR OUTREACH EVENTS CONDUCTED WITH A TOTAL OF 50 ATTENDEES. DUE TO COVID-19, THESE FIRST EVENTS WERE CONDUCTED VIRTUALLY. THERE WERE ALSO 22 PROMOTIONAL EMAILS SENT TO 2,837 CONTACTS AND TARGETED RESIDENTIAL MAILERS WERE SENT TO 16,500 POTENTIALLY IMPACTED RESIDENTS.AS A RESULT OF THE INITIAL OUTREACH, THERE WERE 123 INQUIRIES ABOUT THE PROGRAM AND 111 TESTING APPLICATIONS WERE SUBMITTED. 75 OF THE APPLICATIONS WERE DETERMINED TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THE PROGRAM. 36 OF THE APPLICANTS WERE REFERRED TO OTHER PROGRAMS.BY JUNE 30, 2021, FIVE WELLS HAD BEEN TESTED FOR NITRATES, TWO OF THOSE WELLS TESTED ABOVE 10 MG/L FOR NITRATES AND THE RESIDENTS BEGAN RECEIVING BOTTLED WATER FOR COOKING AND DRINKING. FURTHER TESTS AND WATER DELIVERIES WERE INITIATED AFTER JUNE 30, 2021.
