WITH A MISSION IS TO UNLEASH THE POWER OF MUSIC BY PROVIDING HIGH QUALITY MUSIC EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCES TO STUDENTS AND FAMILIES THAT IS AFFORDABLE AND ACCESSIBLE, PCM IS HELPING OVER 1,000 STUDENTS EACH YEAR REALIZE THEIR DREAMS. OUR VISION IS TO EMPOWER YOUTH WITH OPPORTUNITIES TO EXPRESS THEMSELVES, TRANSFORM THEIR SKILLS, AND BE INSPIRED TO PURSUE FUTURE ENDEAVORS IN MUSIC EDUCATION AND CAREERS. BY HELPING STUDENTS OVERCOME BARRIERS SUCH AS LOW FAMILY INCOME AND LACK OF ACCESS TO MUSICAL ARTS PROGRAMS AT SCHOOL, PCM IGNITES PASSION AND BUILDS KNOWLEDGE IN YOUNG PEOPLE TO HELP THEM DEVELOP SOLID PATHWAYS TO COMPETITIVE, MERIT-BASED HIGHER EDUCATION PROGRAMS. PCM IGNITES PASSION AND BUILDS KNOWLEDGE IN YOUNG PEOPLE TO HELP THEM REACH THEIR DREAMS IN MUSIC AND BEYOND BY CREATING A PIPELINE OF MUSIC EDUCATION FOR THE WHOLE COMMUNITY!COLLEGE PREP PROGRAM: PHOENIX CONSERVATORY OF MUSIC'S (PCM) COLLEGE PREP PROGRAM IS AN OUT OF SCHOOL TIME PROGRAM THAT TAKES PLACE DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR SERVING 90-100 STUDENTS EACH YEAR. STUDENTS RECEIVE 3-10 HOURS PER WEEK OF ENGAGEMENT IN QUALITY MUSIC EDUCATION THAT INCLUDES CONTEMPORARY MUSIC PERFORMANCE, CELEBRATING AMERICAN POPULAR MUSIC WITH FOCUS ON BLUES, JAZZ, ROCK, R&B AND FUNK. THE PROGRAM INCLUDES CLASSES WITH A FOCUS ON CREATIVITY WITH INSTRUCTION IN SONGWRITING, AUDIO PRODUCTION, SCORING, MEDIA/CODING FOR MUSICIANS, MUSIC BUSINESS, AUDITION & INTERVIEW PREPARATION. IN ADDITION TO THE CLASSES, STUDENTS ENGAGE IN ENSEMBLE PARTICIPATION, MUSIC THEORY CLASS, AND PERFORMANCE. IT INCREASES PARTICIPATION THROUGH INNOVATIVE PROVEN PROGRAMS WITH DIVERSE AND LOW-INCOME FAMILIES. IT IS DESIGNED FOR STUDENTS IN 4TH GRADE THROUGH 12TH, GIVES STUDENTS OPPORTUNITIES TO LEARN IN A SETTING THAT MIMICS COLLEGE STUDY WITH PRIVATE LESSONS, CONTEMPORARY MUSIC ENSEMBLES, MUSIC THEORY, RELEVANT ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS, MANY PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES AND SUMMER INTENSIVE WEEKLONG WORKSHOPS.TO DATE 99% OF OUR STUDENTS GRADUATE FROM HIGH SCHOOL AND 80%+ GO ON TO COLLEGE. WE HAVE PROVIDED SUPPORT IN ROOM, BOARD AND TRAVEL TO 35 SUMMER INTENSIVE SCHOLARS IN THE LAST 11 YEARS. IN 2022, WE SENT 3 STUDENTS ON FULL SCHOLARSHIP TO SUMMER INTENSIVES. STUDENTS HAVE CUMULATIVELY EARNED OVER $3.2M IN SCHOLARSHIP DOLLARS. IN 2021-2022 SPECIFICALLY, WE SERVED 73 STUDENTS IN THIS PROGRAM. 69% OF THE STUDENTS ARE RECEIVING FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE/SCHOLARSHIP FOR THE PROGRAM AND WE PROVIDED 870 HOURS OF DIRECT INSTRUCTION.
SCHOOL PROGRAMS INCLUDE AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS AND SCHOOL CAPACITY BUILDING. THEY HAPPEN OFF SITE (E.G. SCHOOLS, SCHOOL DISTRICTS, CHARTER SCHOOLS, PRIVATE SCHOOLS, LIBRARIES, COMMUNITY CENTERS, PARKS AND RECREATION CENTERS, BOYS AND GIRLS CLUBS, ETC.). THEY ARE WITH LARGELY WITH TITLE 1 SCHOOLS IN LOWER SOCIO-ECONOMIC AREAS. PROGRAMS ARE1-3 HOURS PER WEEK FOR 5 WEEKS TO A FULL YEAR IN GUITAR, VOICE, TAIKO DRUMMING, WORLD MUSIC, ETC. THESE PROGRAMS ARE HIGHLY INTERACTIVE AND FOCUS ON BUILDING DEVELOPMENTAL ASSETS. THEY ARE FUNDED THROUGH GRANTS. STUDENTS PARTICIPATE AT NO COST. SCHOOL CAPACITY BUILDING WORKS WITH SCHOOLS AND DISTRICTS TO PROVIDE ACCESS TO PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, PARTNERSHIP AND RELATIONSHIP BUILDING, COMMUNITY NETWORKING AND PROVIDING TEACHING RESOURCES TO SCHOOL MUSIC TEACHERS AND PROGRAMS IN NEED (E.G. PROVIDING MUSICIANSHIP PROGRAMS, THEORY PROGRAMS, POPULAR MUSIC PEDAGOGY AND COACHING, MUSIC TECHNOLOGY PEDAGOGY AND COACHING, SECTIONAL WORK, ETC.) IN 2021-2022, PCM SERVED 327 STUDENTS IN OUR AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM IN A TOTAL OF 24 COMMUNITY-BASED PROGRAMS WITH TITLE 1 PARTNERS, PROVIDED 763 DIRECT INSTRUCTIONAL HOURS WITH 100% NO COST PROGRAMMING TO STUDENTS. WE SERVED 32 EDUCATORS BY PROVIDING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, ADOPTED ONE SCHOOL MUSIC PROGRAM IN NEED AND SERVED 40 STUDENTS WITH 50 HOURS OF DIRECT INSTRUCTION.
PRIVATE MUSIC LESSONS ARE A WAY FOR US TO DEEPEN THE LEARNING WITH LONG TERM, INTENSE SKILL BUILDING AND CRAFT DEVELOPMENT. WITH A SLIDING TUITION SCALE, WE PROVIDE MARKET RATE LESSONS, LESSONS ON FINANCIAL AID AT A REDUCED RATE FOR FAMILIES IN NEED, AND PRIVATE MUSIC LESSONS ON FULL SCHOLARSHIP. IN 2021-2022, WE SERVED 368 STUDENTS IN PRIVATE MUSIC LESSONS WITH 6,648 HOURS OF DIRECT INSTRUCTION. 56% OF THOSE STUDENTS ARE RECEIVING FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE WITH 6,200 PRIVATE MUSIC LESSONS WERE GIVEN AT A REDUCED RATE AND 1,815 LESSONS WERE GIVEN AT NO DIRECT COST TO THE STUDENT FOR FAMILIES IN NEED.
GROUP CLASSES ARE FACILITATED AT OUR LOCATION AND ONLINE THROUGH SYNCHRONOUS AND ASYNCHRONOUS PROGRAMS. THEY ARE A JUMPING BOARD OF LEARNING FOR BEGINNING MUSICIANS. WITH PROGRAMS FOR BABIES, TO OUR LITTLE HANDS SERIES, AND A BEGINNING SERIES FOR CHILDREN, TEENS AND ADULTS. THESE PROGRAMS ARE NO TO LOW COST, WITH SOME BEING FREE DROP-IN PROGRAMS. WEEKLY PROGRAMS INCLUDED: PARENT/TOT MUSIC TIME (FREE EARLY CHILDHOOD MUSIC CLASS), PRE-K MUSIC SCHOOL, PIANO, VIOLIN, SINGING, GUITAR AND PERCUSSION FOR LITTLE HANDS AGES 4-7, PIANO, VIOLIN, SINGING, GUITAR AND PERCUSSION FOR YOUTH AGES 8-14, PIANO, VIOLIN, SINGING, GUITAR AND PERCUSSION FOR AGES 15+, NO COST DROP IN EAR TRAINING AND OPEN JAMS, AUDIO PRODUCTION. SUMMER PROGRAMS INCLUDED: SENSATIONAL SINGERS, MUSIC AROUND THE WORLD, ROCK N ROLL SINGING, GUITAR PALS, PIANO PALS, DRUM LINE READINESS, AUDIO PRODUCTION, SINGER SONGWRITER JAM, SWING INTO JAZZ, CAMP ROCK. IN 2021-2022, WE SPECIFICALLY SERVED 93 EARLY CHILDHOOD PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS IN 7 PROGRAMS WITH 200 HOURS OF DIRECT INSTRUCTION.
