Describe the Organization's Mission:
Part 3 - Line 1
THE OASIS SANCTUARY IS A RESCUE AND RETIREMENT FACILITY FOR EXOTIC BIRDS. THE SANCTUARY OFFERS BIRDS A STABLE, LOVING HOME FOR THE DURATION OF THE BIRDS NATURAL LIFE.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
OASIS PROVIDES PERMANENT SANCTUARY AND LOVING CARE FOR AVIAN PSITTACINES PARROTS WHO HAVE BEEN EXPLOITED BY THE PET TRADE AND FOR WHOM OTHER HOME /CARE OPTIONS DO NOT EXIST. SOME ARRIVE AS ABUSE OR NEGLECT CASES, TRAFFICKED BIRDS OR RESCUES BY LOCAL AND FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AGENCIES. MANY ARE AGING OR HAVE SPECIAL NEEDS. PET OWNERS OFTEN DISCOVER TO LATE THAT PARROTS ARE WILD ANIMALS PRESENTING NATURAL WILD BEHAVIORS, WHICH ARE NOT GENERALLY ACCEPTABLE IN A HOME ENVIRONMENT. WE HAVE PROVIDED A FINAL SANCTUARY HOME FOR OVER 2100 PARROTS IN 25 YEARS OF OPERATION. IN 2022 OASIS ACCEPTED AN ADDITIONAL 101 PARROTS INTO OUR CARE. CONSIDERING NATURAL ATTRITION OF OUR FLOCK, WE MANAGE AND CARE FOR 815 BIRDS...SPECIES RANGING FROM BUDGIES TO MACAWS, AND A SMALL FLOCK OF FOWL. DUE TO THE UNUSUALLY LONG LIFE SPAN OF PARROTS AND THE CONTINUED INCREASING NEED FOR PLACEMENT, OUR MISSION MUST SUSTAIN FOR MANY YEARS TO COME.
