METRO SMART CITIES' MISSION IS TO RESEARCH, DEVELOP, AND IMPLEMENT "SMART CITIES" PILOT PROJECTS IN RESPONSE TO TRANSPORTATION, MOBILIITY, SUSTAINABILITY, AND RESILIENCY CHALLENGES FACING THE GREATER OMAHA METRO. METRO SMART CITIES WILL FACILITATE COLLABORATION BETWEEN THE PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SECTORS AND COLLECT DATA THAT SUPPORTS SMART CHOICES FOR THE FUTURE OF THE OMAHA METRO, TO THE BENEFIT OF ITS RESIDENTS.

A PILOT PROJECT DEMONSTRATING THE USE OF PROTECTED BIKE LANES AS PART OF THE CITY'S MULTI-MODAL TRANSPORTATION INFRASTRUCTURE. IN COLLABORATION WITH THE CITY, DUE TO PUBLIC RIGHT-OF-WAY, METRO SMART CITIES HAS INSTALLED AND MAINTAINS A TEMPORARY TWO-WAY BIKEWAY CONNECTING MIDTOWN AND DOWNTOWN OMAHA. METRO SMART CITIES COLLECTS DATA BY WAY OF AUTOMATED BICYCLE/SCOOTER COUNTERS, TRAFFIC SAFETY METRICS, AND SURVEYS OF USERS AND ADJACENT BUSINESSES TO PROVIDE BEST PRACTICES INFORMATION TO LOCAL MUNICIPALITIES REGARDING THIS SYSTEM.
