GAL/YA/EAA CONTRACT AOC PROVIDES ATTORNEYS TO REPRESENT CHILDREN, YOUTH AND YOUNG ADULTS IN FOSTER CARE AS GUARDIANS AD LITEM, YOUTH ATTORNEYS AND ELIGIBLE ADULT ATTORNEYS. THESE CHILDREN ARE THE SUBJECT OF ABUSE, NEGLECT, OR ABANDONMENT, AND IN THE CUSTODY OF THE NM CHILDREN, YOUTH, AND FAMILIES DEPARTMENT IN THE SECOND JUDICIAL DISTRICT OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO. CONTRACT ATTORNEYS REPRESENT THE BEST INTEREST AND EXPRESSED WISHES OF THE CHILD CLIENTS DURING THE JUDICIAL PROCESS TO PROTECT THEIR STATUTORY RIGHTS, SAFETY, AND HELP GUIDE A PROPER COURSE OF ACTION. IN 2022, THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDED 12,969 PROFESSIONAL HOURS OF LEGAL REPRESENTATION FOR 703 CHILDREN IN 533 CASES. ADDITIONALY, THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDED 109 HOURS IN THE FOSTERING CONNECTIONS PROGRAM, PROVIDING LEGAL REPRESENTATION FOR 28 ELIBILE ADULTS AGING OUT OF THE FOSTER CARE SYSTEM.


MENTAL HEALTH CONTRACT PROVIDES ATTORNEYS FOR MENTAL HEALTH ADVISEMENTS UNDER THE NM STATE MENTAL HEALTH CODE TO CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 14 WHO ARE VOLUNTARILY ADMITTED TO A RESIDENTIAL TREATMENT CENTER. CONTRACT ATTORNEYS EVALUATE AND ADVISE CHILDREN AS TO THEIR RIGHTS AND TAKE APPROPRIATE ACTIONS. IN 2022, THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDED 1,334 PROFESSIONAL HOURS FOR 335 LEGAL ADVISEMENTS FOR CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 14.


THE NM GUARDIANSHIP PROJECT IS A PROGRAM THAT PROVIDES DIRECT LEGAL SERVICES TO LOW INCOME INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES IN LEGAL GUARDIANSHIP AND ADOPTION OF MINOR CHILDREN AND DEVELOPMENTALLY DISABLED ADULT CHILDREN IN NEW MEXICO. THE ORGANIZATION ALSO PROVIDES INFORMATION, REFERRAL, TRAINING, AND FORMS TO THE PUBLIC BY PHONE, EMAIL, INTERNET, AND IN THEIR OFFICE. ADVOCACY PROVIDES POWERS OF ATTORNEY, CAREGIVER'S AFFIDAVITS, AND FREE NOTARY SERVICE THROUGH THEIR WEB SITE AND OFFICE. IN 2022, THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDED 537 HOURS TO MORE THAT 1,500 FAMILIES IN NEW MEXICO.
