LIFE STORY CLUB COMBATS LONELINESS AND SOCIAL ISOLATION BY CREATING SMALL SOCIAL CLUBS FOR OLDER ADULTS TO SHARE LIFE STORIES AND EASILY BUILD FRIENDSHIPS.

LIFE STORY CLUB SERVED A TOTAL OF 345 OLDER ADULTS. IN 2022, WE ORGANIZED 14 CLUBS, OR SMALL GROUPS OF OLDER ADULTS, WHO CAME TOGETHER FOR ONE HOUR ON A WEEKLY BASIS. CLUBS MEET BY VIDEOCONFERENCING, TELECONFERENCING, OR IN-PERSON AT A LOCAL COMMUNITY CENTER. MEETINGS ARE GUIDED BY A CLUB FACILITATOR, WHO FOSTER MEANINGFUL CONVERSATION AND CONNECTION BETWEEN PARTICIPANTS. FACILITATORS GUIDE PARTICIPANTS IN CO-CREATING LEGACY PROJECTS, INCLUDING PUBLISHING PRINTED "CHAPBOOKS, OR SMALL COLLECTIONS OF PARTICIPANTS' LIFE STORIES. LIFE STORY CLB COLLABORATES WITH OLDER ADULT CENTERS, PUBLIC LIBRARIES, PUBLIC HOUSING AGENCIES AS WELL AS MEDICAL AND SOCIAL SERVICE PROVIDERS, TO DELIVER PROGRAMMING TO THEIR PATIENTS AND CLIENTS. IN 2022, LSC PUBLISHED 10 CHAPBOOKS, AND HELD THREE STORYTELLING EVENTS.


IN 2022, LIFE STORY CLUB COMPLETED OUR PILOT PROJECT ENTITLED "LIFE STORY CLUB @HOME," A PROJECT WHERE LSC PARTNERED WITH MEDICAL AND SOCIAL SERVICE PROVIDERS TO REFER HOMEBOUND AND CHRONICALLY ILL PATIENTS TO CLUBS THAT ARE RUN OVER THE PHONE. THE PILOT PROJECT RAN FROM JUNE 2021 TO DECEMBER 2022, AND INVOLVED DEVELOPING A REFERRAL PROCESS AND A "DIAL-IN ASSISTANCE" SUPPORT FOR OLDER ADULTS WHO REQUIRE HEALTH OR TECHNOLOGY ACCOMMODATIONS. IN TOTAL, LSC RECEIVED AND SERVED 158 INDIVIDUALS WHO WERE REFERRED BY A DOCTOR, NURSE, OR SOCIAL WORKER (88 REFERRALS IN CALENDAR YEAR 2022).
