SALT LAKE ACADEMY OF MUSIC (SLAM) IS A SALT LAKE CITY NONPROFIT MUSIC EDUCATION PROGRAM DEDICATED TO ENSURING THAT YOUTH HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO EXPLORE AND DEVELOP THEIR PASSION FOR MUSIC. WE DO THIS BY PROVIDING INCLUSIVE AND EQUITABLE ACCESS TO INSTRUMENTS, LESSONS, PERFORMANCE, RECORDING, AND TOURING PROGRAMS - ALL ON A FREE-TO-FEE SLIDING SCALE. WE ENVISION A COMMUNITY WHERE PEOPLE FROM DIVERSE BACKGROUNDS CONNECT THROUGH MUSIC.

SLAM'S TEAM OF HIGHLY EXPERIENCED MUSIC EDUCATORS TEACH GUITAR, BASS, PIANO, VOICE, UKULELE, DRUMS, HORNS, STRINGS, AND ELECTRONIC MUSIC THROUGH VARIOUS GENRES, INCLUDING ROCK, CLASSICAL, JAZZ, POP, BLUES, BLUEGRASS, FOLK, AND ELECTRONIC MUSIC. OUR YOUTH PROGRAM OFFERS PRIVATE LESSONS, SUMMER CAMPS, GROUP PERFORMANCE PROGRAMS, FREE GROUP JAZZ JAM SESSIONS IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF UTAH MUSIC DEPARTMENT AND JAZZ PROMOTER, JAZZSLC, AND WE PROVIDE ADULT PRIVATE LESSONS. IN 2022, WE SERVED 185 YOUTH AND 30 ADULTS, PROVIDING 10 FULL SCHOLARSHIPS, 5 PARTIAL SCHOLARSHIPS, AND 10 FREE MUSIC INSTRUMENTS TO OUR YOUTH STUDENTS. 30 PERFORMANCE PROGRAM STUDENTS PERFORMED IN 10 PUBLIC CONCERTS, 25 YOUTH PARTICIPATED IN FREE GROUP JAZZ JAM SESSIONS AND 13 STUDENTS PARTICIPATED IN A SUMMER DAY CAMP. IN 2022, OUR THIRD YEAR IN BUSINESS, ENROLLMENT GREW BY 250%.
