PAWSITIVE ALLIANCE'S MISSION IS TO HELP END THE EUTHANASIA OF DOGS AND CATS IN WASHINGTON STATE BY INCREASING ADOPTIONS, INITIATING AND SUPPORTING SPAY AND NEUTER PROGRAMS, AND PROVIDING RESOURCES AND EDUCATION TO IMPROVE PET RETENTION. OUR VISION IS A HAPPY AND HEALTHY HOME FOR EVERY DOG AND CAT IN WASHINGTON STATE.

OUR ADOPTION PROGRAM FOCUSES ON PROVIDING ADDITIONAL ATTENTION AND EXPOSURE TO HOMELESS ANIMALS IN WASHINGTON'S SHELTER AND RESCUE ORGANIZATIONS IN ORDER TO INCREASE ADOPTION RATES THROUGHOUT THE STATE. IN 2020, OUR ANNUAL ADOPTION EVENTS AND #WHYNOTMEPETS CAMPAIGN RESULTED IN NEARLY 100 ADOPTIONS. OUR 9TH ANNUAL STATEWIDE SHELTER OPEN HOUSE HAD 18 PARTICIPATING SHELTERS AND RESULTED IN A HARD TO ADOPT PET BEING ADOPTED AFTER 632 DAYS IN RESCUE! THE #WHYNOTMEPETS CAMPAIGN TARGETS THE HARDER TO PLACE ANIMALS IN THE SHELTER SYSTEM; DOGS AND CATS THAT HAVE BEEN HOMELESS FOR 60 DAYS OR LONGER, OLDER ANIMALS, ONES WITH MEDICAL ISSUES, AND MARGINALIZED BREEDS SUCH AS BULLY BREEDS.
OUR SPAY & NEUTER PROGRAM PROVIDES TARGETED FREE OR LOW-COST SPAY & NEUTER SURGERIES FOR COMPANION ANIMALS OF LOW-INCOME FAMILIES (OR INDIVIDUALS) AND COMMUNITY CATS. IN 2020, WE PROVIDED ASSISTANCE TO 126 CATS AND DOGS THROUGHOUT WASHINGTON STATE. ALL INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES THAT RECEIVED ASSISTANCE THROUGH THIS PROGRAM WERE AT OR BELOW THE POVERTY THRESHOLD FOR THEIR COUNTIES WITHIN WASHINGTON STATE.
OUR PET RETENTION PROGRAM FOCUSES ON KEEPING PETS AND PEOPLE TOGETHER. IN 2020, PAWSITIVE ALLIANCE CONTINUED PARTNERSHIPS WITH GROUPS THAT WORK WITH THE HOMELESS. THE SEATTLE AREA HAS THE THIRD HIGHEST RATE OF HOMELESSNESS IN THE COUNTRY AND UP TO 10% OF HOMELESS INDIVIDUALS HAVE PETS. PAWSITIVE ALLIANCE WORKS WITH GROUPS TO PROVIDE MEDICAL CARE AND PET CARE ITEMS TO HOMELESS PET CARETAKERS. IN ADDITION, WE PROVIDE RESOURCES TO THOSE INDIVIDUALS WHO NEED ASSISTANCE WITH TRAINING OR BEHAVIORAL ISSUES TO REDUCE OWNER SURRENDERS TO LOCAL RESCUES AND SHELTERS.
