Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
CAPITOL HILL UNITED NEIGHBORHOODS (CHUN) CONTINUED TO FOCUS ON ITS MISSION OF BRINGING DIVERSE NEIGHBORS TOGETHER TO ENHANCE THE QUALITY OF LIFE ON CAPITOL HILL THROUGH HISTORIC PRESERVATION, SUPPORTING AFFORDABLE HOUSING AND ADDRESSING HOMELESSNESS, PROMOTING SMART LAND USE AND ZONING, ADVANCING PUBLIC SAFETY, AND ENCOURAGING NEIGHBORHOOD ENHANCEMENTS THROUGH VOLUNTEERISM AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT. THE FOLLOWING IS A CONDENSED LIST OF SUCCESS POINTS FOR THE 2021 FILING YEAR: CHUN CONTINUED TO COLLABORATE WITH NEIGHBORHOOD GROUPS AND BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICTS TO PROVIDE AID TO THE UNHOUSED, INCLUDING ONGOING ENGAGEMENT WITH COLORADO VILLAGE COOPERATIVE TO BUILD SAFE OUTDOOR SPACES (SOS). CHUN MEMBERS DELIVERED, UNDERWROTE, AND SERVED MEALS TO THE UNHOUSED, INCLUDING PARTNERING WITH URBAN PEAK AND COLORADO VILLAGE COLLABORATIVE. OUR ORGANIZATION INVESTED 10,000 IN THE ST FRANCIS WARREN RESIDENCES TO LAUNCH A CRISIS SUPPORT FUND FOR THEIR FORMERLY UNHOUSED RESIDENTS. WE CO- FACILITATED GOOD NEIGHBOR MEETINGS TO ENSURE THE PROJECT'S SUCCESS. NOW THE COMMUNITY PROVIDES 48 STUDIO STYLE AFFORDABLE SUPPORTIVE APARTMENTS FOR INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS AND/OR ARE JUSTICE INVOLVED. ON A NUMBER OF OCCASIONS, CHUN HOSTED NEIGHBORHOOD CLEAN-UP EVENTS AND COLLABORATED WITH STAKEHOLDERS TO GUIDE THE FUTURE OF SEVERAL SIGNIFICANT NEIGHBORHOOD SITES. CHUN FORMED A NEIGHBORHOOD WORKING GROUP TO CO-CREATE THE FUTURE OF 123 SPEER BLVD., THE SITE OF THE ABC 7NEWS BUILDING. THE REDEVELOPMENT OF THIS SITE WAS A CONTENTIOUS LOCAL ISSUE, AND CHUN WORKED WITH MANY CONCERNED PARTIES TO NEGOTIATE AN AGREEABLE OUTCOME. AS A KEY STAKEHOLDER, CHUN WORKED WITH NEIGHBORS TO PREVENT THE DEMOLITION OF SEVERAL RESTAURANTS AT 7TH AVE AND GRANT STREET. CHUN WAS ABLE TO PROMOTE AN AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE RESTAURANTS' OWNER AND THE PROPERTY OWNERS TO PURCHASE THE BUILDINGS AND PREVENT DEMOLITION OF THE BUILDINGS, WHILE PROMOTING AN ADAPTIVE REUSE OF THE PROPERTY. AGREEMENTS AT THESE SITES SHOW THAT CHUN IS LEADING THE WAY IN COLLABORATIVE PROCESSES AND DEVELOPING SOLUTIONS TO COMPLEX NEIGHBORHOOD ISSUES. CHUN CONTINUED THE S.E.E.D. FUNDING INITIATIVE TO ENCOURAGE CIVIC ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT BY PROVIDING FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR SMALL, SCALABLE PROJECTS ALIGNED WITH CHUN'S MISSION AND VALUES. IN 2021, CHUN INVESTED 8,000 IN SEED AWARDS TO GROUPS PROMOTING COMMUNITY BENEFIT. AT THE ANNUAL MEETING, THE CHUN BOARD PRESENTED, AMENDED, AND ADOPTED NEW BYLAWS TO BE CONSISTENT WITH LOCAL, STATE, AND FEDERAL LAWS GOVERNING NONPROFITS AND REGISTERED NEIGHBORHOOD ORGANIZATIONS; FURTHER WE REFINED INTERNAL OPERATIONS AND PROCEDURES TO ALLOW FOR A MODERN, HIGH FUNCTIONING ORGANIZATION. FINALLY, CHUN FINALIZED ITS JOINT VENTURE PARTNERSHIP WITH CITY STREET INVESTORS TO OPERATE AND MANAGE THE HISTORIC TEARS-MCFARLANE HOUSE AT 1290 WILLIAMS STREET. CHUN RECEIVED 1 MILLION FROM THE FORMATION OF THE PARTNERSHIP. SUBSEQUENT TO THIS WORK, CHUN ESTABLISHED TWO OPERATING ENDOWMENTS AND A DONOR ADVISED FUND AT THE DENVER FOUNDATION. PROCEEDS FROM THE ENDOWMENT WILL SUPPORT PORTIONS OF THE CHUN OPERATING BUDGET IN PERPETUITY. THE SUCCESSES OF PAST YEARS CONTINUED IN 2021 WITH NO DEBT, INCREASED CASH ON HAND, INCREASED MEMBERSHIP, AND INCREASED COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT.
