THE ANNUAL ARIZONA FORWARD ENVIRONMENTAL EXCELLENCE AWARDS WAS MOVED TO 2021 DUE TO COVID RESTRICTIONS AND 2020 ENTRIES WILL BE INCLUDED IN THE 2021 EVENT. THE 40TH ANNUAL ENVIRONMENTAL EXCELLENCE AWARDS WAS POSTPONED UNTIL THE FALL OF 2021. THE EVENT RECOGNIZES OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT OF LOCAL COMMUNITIES. IT SPOTLIGHTS DISTINGUISHED PROJECTS THROUGHOUT ARIZONA THAT DEMONSTRATE A HIGH LEVEL OF ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITMENT AND CONTRIBUTE TO OVERALL SUSTAINABILITY. THE COVETED CRESCORDIA AWARD SETS STANDARDS FOR THE EXCEPTIONAL PHYSICAL, TECHNICAL AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT IN ARIZONA. SEVEN BROAD CATEGORIES INCLUDE BUILDINGS AND STRUCTURES, LIVABLE COMMUNITIES, SITE DEVELOPMENT AND LANDSCAPE, ART IN PUBLIC PLACES, ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNOLOGIES, ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION, COMMUNICATION AND ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP. THE PROGRAM SERVES AS A BENCHMARK FOR PROMOTING SUSTAINABILITY, CONSERVING NATURAL RESOURCES AND PRESERVING UNIQUE DESERT ENVIRONMENT FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS.
STATEWIDE SUSTAINABILITY SUMMIT. MEMBERS PARTICIPATED IN CONVERSATIONS WITH LEADERS AND EXPERTS TO ADDRESS ARIZONA ISSUES. DUE TO COVID, ARIZONA FORWARD DID NOT HOST ANY IN PERSON SINCE MARCH 2020 EVENTS. THOUGH WE DID NOT GATHER IN-PERSON DURING THIS TIME, WE FOUND WAYS TO PIVOT BY CREATING NEW WAYS TO ENGAGE WITH OUR MEMBERS AND MAJOR CONTRIBUTORS, INCLUDING ADDITIONAL QUALITY PROGRAMMING. WE HOSTED A YEARLONG CLIMATE ACTION WEBINAR SERIES WITH GREAT ATTENDANCE SUCCESS AND RELEVANT STATEWIDE CONVERSATIONS THAT ADDRESSED KEY SUSTAINABILITY ISSUES. WE CONTINUED OUR COMMITTEE MEETINGS VIA ZOOM AND HAD RECORD STATEWIDE PARTICIPATION.
THE VARIOUS PROGRAMS SUPPORT, ADVOCATE AND PROMOTE AESTHETIC, CULTURAL, ENVIRONMENTAL AND QUALITY OF LIFE INTEREST IN THE STATE OF ARIZONA. 832 MEMBERS AND THE PUBLIC PARTICIPATED IN 6 WEBINARS AND EVENTS IN 2020. TO ACHIEVE THIS PURPOSE THE ORGANIZATION CONDUCTS CONFERENCES, EVENTS AND OTHER COMMUNICATION THROUGH ITS WEBSITE AND MAILERS TO PROMOTE AWARENESS IN THE COMMUNITY REGARDING THESE ISSUES. THE MEMBERS AND PARTICIPANTS AT ORGANIZATION CONFERENCES AND EVENTS INCLUDE THE BUSINESS, COMMUNITY, NOT-FOR-PROFIT AND GOVERNMENT LEADERS OF ARIZONA. FORUMS AND CONFERENCES INCLUDED MAYOR AND COUNCIL FORUM DROUGHT CONTINGENCY PLAN FORUM SUSTAINABLE TOURISM LUNCHEON CLIMATE CHANGE ROUNDTABLES STATEWIDE AUTONOMOUS AND CONNECTED TRANSPORTATION TOWNHALLS EMERGING SUSTAINABILITY LEADERS AND URBAN WATERWAYS PROJECTS.
