PRESCHOOL PROGRAM GARCIA STREET CLUB (GSC) SERVED OVER 85 FAMILIES IN 2022-2023 BY PROVIDING HIGH-QUALITY EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION AND CARE TO CHILDREN AGES ONE THROUGH FIVE. OUR CURRICULUM, BASED ON STATE OF NEW MEXICO'S EARLY LEARNING GUIDELINES, PROMOTES SCHOOL-READINESS IN ALL THE CORE EARLY LEARNING DOMAINS. IT ALLOWS TEACHERS TO ASSESS CHILDREN'S DEVELOPMENT PROGRESS IN EVERY AREA (PHYSICAL, COGNITIVE, COMMUNICATION AND LANGUAGE, CREATIVE, AND SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL). WE SUPPORT FAMILIES BY PROVIDING ONGOING CHILD ASSESSMENT AND IDENTIFYING DEVELOPMENTAL DELAYS AND LEARNING CHALLENGES AND ASSIST WITH SEEKING AND ARRANGING EARLY INTERVENTION SERVICES WHEN NECESSARY. IN ADDITION, GSC PRIORITIZED THE ENROLLMENT OF FOSTER CHILDREN IN THE CHILDREN YOUTH AND FAMILIES DEPARTMENT CHILD PROTECTIVE SERVICES DIVISION.
FAMILY SUPPORT AND PARENT EDUCATION GARCIA STREET CLUB'S FAMILY SUPPORT PROGRAM PROVIDES EARLY INTERVENTION SUPPORT FOR CHILDREN WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DELAYS AND SPECIAL NEEDS AND ALLOWS US TO CREATE INDIVIDUALIZED PLANS FOR EACH FAMILY REQUIRING EXTRA SUPPORT. OUR PARENTING EDUCATION WORKSHOPS FEATURE DIFFERENT SPEAKERS WHO PRESENT ON A VARIETY OF TOPICS CENTERED AROUND KINDERGARTEN READINESS, PARENTING TODDLERS, POSITIVE DISCIPLINE AND GUIDANCE, AND COVID SAFETY. OUR RESOURCE LIBRARY IS AVAILABLE TO ALL FAMILIES AND INCLUDES LITERATURE ON TOPICS RELATED TO YOUNG CHILDREN'S DEVELOPMENT. WE ALSO FACILITATE A "GIVING TREE" PROGRAM EACH HOLIDAY SEASON AND GATHER AND DISTRIBUTE WARM CLOTHING AND GIFTS FOR FAMILIES IN NEED.
TODDLER PROGRAM IN ADDITION TO OUR PRESCHOOL PROGRAMING, GARCIA STREET CLUB HAS ONE OF THE FEW EARLY LEARNING OPTIONS FOR TODDLERS AGES 12 TO 36 MONTHS IN THE SANTA FE AREA. IN 2022-23 WE HAD A TOTAL OF 24 ONE AND TWO YEAR-OLDS ENROLLED IN THE PROGRAM. OUR TODDLER CURRICULUM FOCUSES ON SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL COMPETENCE, COGNITIVE SKILL DEVELOPMENT, AND SENSORY EXPERIENCES, AS WELL AS LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT, PRE-LITERACY, AND NUTRITION.
FOOD PROGRAM GARCIA STREET CLUB SERVES A HEALTHY BREAKFAST AND AN AFTERNOON SNACK EACH DAY TO EACH CHILD ENROLLED IN THE PROGRAM. WE OFFER MILK, WHOLE GRAINS, FRESH FRUITS AND VEGETABLES AND PROTEIN EACH DAY. EACH CLASS ENGAGES IN THE PROGRAM BY PARTICIPATING IN A MONTHLY NUTRITION EDUCATION PROJECT TO BROADEN CHILDREN'S FOOD PREFERENCES, INTRODUCE NEW, HEALTHY FOODS, AND TEACH BASIC FOOD COOKING CONCEPTS. WE ALSO RECEIVE AND DISTRIBUTE FOOD TO FAMILIES WITH FOOD INSECURITY THROUGH A PARTNERSHIP WITH THE FOOD DEPOT. FOOD BANK.
