THROUGH OUR ON THE GROUND ORGANIZATION IN UGANDA THE PRESERVE INTERNATIONAL TEAM CARRIES OUT TRAININGS IN AGRONOMIC BEST PRACTICES AS WELL AS SAFE AND EFFECTIVE FOOD PRESERVATION AND STORAGE TECHNIQUES. WE PRIMARILY WORK WITH WOMEN'S FARM GROUPS IN AND AROUND THE BIDI BIDI REFUGEE CAMP IN YUMBE, UGANDA. WE WORK WITH UGANDAN BASED SPARKY SOCIAL ENTERPRISES TO PROVIDE OUR PARTNERS WITH SPARKY DRYERS, A SOLAR AND BIO-FUEL POWERED FOOD DEHYDRATOR THAT CAN EXTEND THE LIFE OF PRODUCE FROM DAYS TO MONTHS, AND EVEN YEARS. THIS EMPOWERS SUBSISTENCE FARMERS NOT ONLY WITH A MEANS OF SECURING HEALTHY FOOD FOR THEIR FAMILIES YEAR ROUND, BUT ALSO PROVIDES A MORE SECURE MEANS OF REVENUE GENERATION THROUGH THE SALE OF PRESERVED FOOD THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. THIS IS ESPECIALLY ADVANTAGEOUS DURING THE DRY SEASON WHEN FOOD IS SCARCE AND THUS FETCHED A HIGHER PRICE IN THE MARKET. AS OF DECEMBER 2022 WE HAVE WORKED WITH 12 FARM GROUPS, PROVIDING AGRICULTURAL AND FOOD PRESERVATION TRAINING TO OVER 420 INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR FEEDING OVER 4,000 PEOPLE.
