RICHMOND LAND'S MISSION IS TO BUILD GRASSROOTS POWER FOR RESIDENT-DRIVEN AND COMMUNITY-CONTROLLED LAND-USE THROUGH COMMUNITY ORGANIZING, LAND ACQUISITION, DEVELOPMENT, AND STEWARDSHIP OF LAND AND AFFORDABLE HOUSING FOR LONG-TERM COMMUNITY BENEFIT.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
BULDING POWER: THE BUILDING POWER PROGRAM SUPPORTED SEVEN RESIDENT LEADERS IN AN IMMERSIVE PLACE-BASED FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM THAT PROVIDED LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT, EDUCATION ON PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT PROCESSES, AND GAVE RESIDENTS THE SPACE TO CONCEPTUALIZE A TINY HOME ECO-VILLAGE DEVELOPMENT PROJECT AS WELL AS AN ADU PROGRAM THAT INTEGRATES PLACE-MAKING INITIATIVES WITH PLACE-KEEPING. IN THE PROCESS THEY LEAD A PARTICIPATORY RESEARCH PROJECT, PRODUCED A RICHMOND IS HOME ZINE, AND HOSTED COMMUNITY EVENTS THAT REACHED HUNDREDS OF RESIDENTS AND ELEVATED CONCEPTS OF COMMUNITY-OWNERSHIP, AND RESIDENTS RIGHT TO LIVE AND PROSPER IN THE LOCAL COMMUNITY.
REAL ESTATE PROJECTS: AS A COMMUNITY LAND TRUST, RICHMOND LAND'S GOAL IS TO CREATE PERMANENTLY AFFORDABLE HOUSING. WE BUILT RELATIONSHIPS AND A PIPELINE FOR ACQUISITION OF PROPERTY TO STABILIZE HOMES FOR FAMILIES IN RICHMOND AND CREATE PERMANENTLY AFFORDABLE UNITS THROUGH OUR LONG-TERM GROUND LEASE. WE PERFORMED PRE-ACQUISITION DUE DILIGENCE ON PROPERTIES WE LOOK TOWARD ACQUIRING IN FUTURE YEARS. WE WILL BUILD OFF OF LESSONS LEARNED TO CREATE RESIDENT-CONTROLLED, COMMUNITY-OWNED HOUSING WITH PERMANENT AFFORDABILITY IN RICHMOND.
ADVOCACY: RICHMOND LAND WORKS IN COALITION WITH OTHER COMMUNITY GROUPS TO BUILD RESIDENT POWER, ACTIVATE RESIDENTS IN PARTICIPATORY ACTION AND DIRECT ACTION, AND TO ENGAGE COMMUNITY OFFICIALS AND POLICYMAKERS. WE CONTINUED OUR PUBLIC LANDS IN COMMUNITY HANDS CAMPAIGN AND CONTINUED PARTNERING WITH THE HOUSING AUTHORITY AROUND THE PROCESS OF SHARING SURPLUS LAND ACT PARCELS FOR NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS TO CREATE COMMUNITY BENEFIT PROJECTS. WE CREATE COMMUNITY-DRIVEN PLANNING OPPORTUNITIES IN THE CITY OF RICHMOND AND UNINCORPORATED PARTS OF WEST CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, WORKING TOWARD SYSTEM CHANGE FOR GREATER COMMUNITY POWER AND RESIDENT MOBILIZATION TO ENGAGE DIRECTLY IN THE PLANNING PROCESS.
