THE MISSION OF LARAMIE CHILD DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION/LARAMIE HEAD START IS TO PREPARE CHILDREN FOR SUCCESS IN SCHOOL AND SOCIETY. VALUING THE VOICES OF FAMILIES, CHILDREN AND STAFF, WE WORK TOGETHER, THROUGH CARING AND CONCERN FOR CHILDREN, TO REACH EACH FAMILY'S GOALS.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
HEAD START PROGRAM FOR ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED PRE-SCHOOL CHILDREN - WE SERVE 77 CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES. THIS PROGRAM RUNS 4 DAYS PER WEEK FOR THE SCHOOL YEAR. WE HOLD OVER 20 FAMILY EVENTS PER YEAR. AT THESE EVENTS A DINNER IS SERVED AND AN ACTIVITY TAKES PLACE. FOR EXAMPLE, EVERY YEAR WE HAVE A CINCO DE MAYO CELEBRATION WHERE WE SERVE THE FAMILIES A MEAL AND DISTRIBUTE FREE BOOKS TO ALL CHRILDREN OF THE FAMILIES UNDER THE AGE OF 18. A NEWSLETTER IS DISTRIBUTED EACH MONTH, MAKING THE FAMILIES AWARE OF WHAT ACTIVITES ARE OCCURING IN HEAD START AS WELL AS IN THE OUTSIDE COMMUNITY. WE TRY TO INFORM THEM OF RESOURCES OUTSIDE OF THE PROGRAM THAT WOULD BE A BENEFIT TO THEM. THE OBJECTIVE OF THE HEAD START PROGRAM IS TO PREPARE LOW-INCOME CHILDREN FOR SUCCESS IN SOCIETY. WE OFFER PRESCHOOL TO THESE CHILDREN FREE OF CHARGE. WITH THE CONSENT OF FAMILIES, WE PROVIDE A RANGE OF SCREENINGS, INCLUDING DEVELOPMENTAL, PHYSICALS, AND DENTAL. IF SCREENING RESULTS OF A CHILD'S DEVELOPMENTAL STATUS INDICATES THAT THE CHILD MAY HAVE ANY DELAYS DEVELOPMENTALLY, WE REFER THE CHILD TO THE DEVELOPMENTAL PRESCHOOL AND DAYCARE FOR FURTHER ASSESSMENT AFTER PARENTS PROVIDE CONSENT.
