SPECIALLY DESIGNED STRUCTURES COMPRISED OF BOULDERS AND ROOT WADS- ALSO KNOWN AS REFUGIA - WERE PLACED IN THE RIVER TO PROVIDE JUVENILE SALMON A PLACE TO REST, FEED, AND SEEK ESSENTIAL PROTECTION FROM LARGER, PREDATORY FISH THAT PREY ON THEM.
