Part 3
THE WILD CLEARWATER PROGRAM IS A MULTIFACETED AND INTEGRATED CONSERVATION EDUCATION AND PARTICIPATION EFFORT. ITS TWO MAIN PARTS ARE OUTREACH/EDUCATION AND ECOSYSTEM DEFENSE. THIS PAST WE PARTICIPATED AND/OR SPONSORED SEVERAL DIFFERENT EVENTS AND EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES. MOST WERE ONLINE DUE TO THE COVID PANDEMIC, THOUGH WE DID SEVEN WORKSHOPS ABOUT THE FOREST PLAN REVISION FOR THE NEZ PERCE AND CLEARWATER NATIONAL FORESTS IN IDAHO, MONTANA, AND WASHINGTON BEFORE THE PANDEMIC. OTHER ACTIVITIES INCLUDED FIELD MONITORING, EDUCATIONAL RESEARCH PROJECTS, AND THREE PRESENTATIONS AND UNIVERSITIES AND COLLEGES. THESE EVENTS REACHED HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE. THE WILD CLEARWATER PROGRAM ALSO PROVIDES NEWSLETTERS AND INFORMATION ABOUT CURRENT PUBLIC LAND, WATER AND WILLDIFE ISSUES IN THE CLEARWATER BASIN TO A LIST OF ABOUT 900 IN PAPER FORM AND SOME 3000 IN EMAIL FORM, AND A FEW THOUSAND FOLLOWERS ON FACEBOOK AND TWITTER.THE ECOSYSTEM DEFENSE COMPONENT OF THE WILD CLEARWATER PROGRAM OF FRIENDS OF THE CLEARWATER IS HEAVILY INVOLVED IN THE INPUT PROCESSES ON PUBLIC LANDS. FRIENDS OF THE CLEARWATER STAFF MEMBERS AND VOLUNTEERS PREPARE AND PROVIDE DETAILED AND SUBSTANTIVE INPUT ON ISSUES THAT AFFECT THE NATIONAL FORESTS IN THE CLEARWATER BASIN. LAST YEAR WE COMMENTED ON DOZENS OF SEPARATE PROJECTS AND PREPARED TWO DETAILED SCIENTIFIC REPORTS, ONE ON OLD FORESTS AND ONE ON SUPERSIZED CLEARCUTS. IN CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES, WE MAY ALSO EXERCISE OUR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS OF JUDICIAL REVIEW IF WE FEEL AGENCY DECISIONS ARE IN ERROR. WE MET WITH ADMINISTRATION OFFICIALS, VIA ZOOM IN 2021. WE ARE FREQUENTLY ASKED TO COMMENT TO THE MEDIA ON VARIOUS TOPICS AFFECTING THE CLEARWATER BASIN.
