POWER CALIFORNIA HARNESSES THE ENERGY OF YOUNG VOTERS OF COLOR AND THEIR FAMILIES TO CREATE A STATE THAT IS EQUITABLE, INCLUSIVE AND JUST FOR EVERYONE WHO CALLS CALIFORNIA HOME.

NARRATIVE CHANGE AND CULTURAL STRATEGY: WE USE STRATEGIC COMMUNICATIONS, NARRATIVE, DIGITAL AND CULTURAL STRATEGIES TO CHANGE THE WAY YOUNG PEOPLE OF COLOR ARE VALUED AND POSITIONED AS LEADERS AND DECISION-MAKERS, AND TO CHANGE THE WAY YOUNG PEOPLE EXPERIENCE POLITICS AND USE THEIR CIVIC POWER TO IMPROVE THEIR COMMUNITIES. WE ALSO WORK WITH ARTISTS AND COMMUNITIES OF CREATIVES, CREATING VISUALS AND IMAGES THAT CELEBRATE THE CULTURAL VALUE OF OUR COMMUNITIES.IN 2021 TRAINED 25+ YOUNG PEOPLE OF COLOR AS SPOKESPEOPLE AND PUBLISHED OVER 15 OP-EDS GENERATING OVER 40 MEDIA HITS. OUR MEDIA COVERAGE INCLUDED MAJOR OUTLETS WITH FEATURES AND OP-EDS IN MERCED COUNTY TIMES, MERCED SUN-STAR, THE FRESNO BEE, AND UNIVISION, AMONG OTHERS. WE DEVELOPED ENGAGING VIDEO CONTENT AND VIDEOS TO INCREASE PUBLIC AWARENESS AND HEALTH EDUCATION AROUND COVID-19, REACHING OVER 16,000 YOUNG PEOPLE ACROSS CALIFORNIA.
FIELD CAMPAIGNS: WE BUILD THE INFRASTRUCTURE, CAPACITY, AND VOTING POWER OF YOUNG PEOPLE OF COLOR THROUGH CIVIC ENGAGEMENT. WE HAVE BUILT A BASE OF SUPPORTERS WITH OVER 100,000 YOUNG VOTERS OF COLOR STATEWIDE. WITH OUR ALLIANCE NETWORK OF 20+ LOCAL GRASSROOTS YOUTH ORGANIZATIONS IN RURAL, URBAN AND SUBURBAN COMMUNITIES THROUGHOUT THE STATE WE ARE BUILDING POWER AMONG YOUNG PEOPLE OF COLOR ACROSS 50+ COUNTIES THROUGH YOUTH ORGANIZING, VOTER EDUCATION, AND MOBILIZATION. THROUGHOUT 2021 WE BUILT THE CAPACITY OF 20+ YOUTH ORGANIZATIONS ORGANIZING AND BUILDING POWER IN PLACES LIKE EAST CONTRA COSTA, THE CENTRAL VALLEY, AND SOUTHEAST LOS ANGELES IN AREAS WHERE ORGANIZING WITH YOUNG PEOPLE OF COLOR DID NOT EXIST.IN 2021, WE ENGAGED AND MOBILIZED OVER 45,000 YOUNG VOTERS FOR THE SPECIAL ELECTION TARGETING YOUNG VOTERS THROUGHOUT THE CENTRAL VALLEY. TOGETHER WE LED EFFORTS RUNNING THE LARGEST STATEWIDE VOTER OUTREACH CAMPAIGN FLEXING THE VOTING POWER OF YOUNG PEOPLE OF COLOR. POWER CALIFORNIA HAS BECOME A LEADER AT THE MILLION VOTERS PROJECT (MVP) TABLE. MVP IS AN ALLIANCE OF 7 COMMUNITY-DRIVEN STATE AND REGIONAL NETWORKS WORKING TO STRENGTHEN AND EXPAND DEMOCRACY. FIELD STAFF ARE OFTEN CONSULTED FOR THEIR EXPERTISE IN COORDINATING LARGE-SCALE INTEGRATED VOTER ENGAGEMENT PROGRAMS.
ORGANIZING PROGRAMS: WE WORK WITH YOUNG PEOPLE (16-34) AND YOUTH ORGANIZING GROUPS TO STRENGTHEN THEIR ORGANIZING MUSCLE, YOUTH ENGAGEMENT, AND CULTURAL STRATEGY TO BUILD A SUSTAINED VOTING BASE WITH POWER TO MOBILIZE YOUNG VOTERS ACROSS CALIFORNIA. WE FACILITATE POWER CALIFORNIA ALLIANCE PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS ACROSS THE STATE TO MOBILIZE 200,000 YOUNG VOTERS ANNUALLY, MAXIMIZING THE IMPACT AND EFFECTIVENESS OF OUR COMBINED EFFORTS TO ENGAGE AND MOBILIZE YOUNG VOTERS. WE BUILT YOUTH ORGANIZING CAPACITY IN REGIONS OF LOS ANGELES AND THE CENTRAL VALLEY, IN ORDER TO STRENGTHEN REGIONAL MUSCLE AND INFRASTRUCTURE NEEDED TO EXPAND CIVIC POWER FOR YOUNG PEOPLE IN AREAS WHERE LITTLE YOUTH ORGANIZING EXISTS. IN 2021 WE LAUNCHED OUR FUND OUR FUTURES CAMPAIGN THAT ALIGNS OUR YOUTH ORGANIZING AROUND A YOUTH CENTERED BUDGET AGENDA THAT DIVESTS FROM SCHOOL POLICE AND INVESTS IN STUDENT HEALING AND WELLNESS, HOUSING, AND HEALTHCARE. THROUGHOUT 2021 WE TRAINED, ENGAGED OVER 4,000 YOUNG PEOPLE ACROSS CALIFORNIA. POWER ACADEMIES, YOUTH CONVENINGS, TRAININGS, WORKSHOPS, AND ACTIONS PROVIDE LEADERSHIP SPACES FOR YOUNG PEOPLE TO DEVELOP AND HONE SKILLS IN YOUTH ORGANIZING, RUNNING PHONE BANKS, CAMPAIGN STRATEGY, VOTER EDUCATION, POLITICAL EDUCATION, COMMUNICATIONS, CANVASSSING, AND VOTER EDUCATIO AND OUTREACH.
