RESEARCH & EDUCATION PROGRAM - SHAFTER RESEARCH STATION - SAN JOAQUIN VALLEY QUALITY COTTON GROWERS ASSOCIATION OPERATES THE FORMER USDA COTTON RESEARCH STATION IN SHAFTER, CALIFORNIA UNDER A MASTER LEASE AGREEMENT WITH THE PROPERTY OWNER, THE COUNTY OF KERN. RESEARCH CONDUCTED THERE PROVIDES OUR MEMBERS WITH INNOVATIVE METHODS AND TECHNOLOGIES THAT PROVIDE SOLUTIONS TO SERIOUS THREATS TO COTTON QUALITY. THE ASSOCIATION OPERATES RESEARCH GREENHOUSES, LABORATORIES, AND FIELD PLOTS AT THE SITE. THE ASSOCIATION ALSO INCLUDES A STUDENT INTERNSHIP PROGRAM FOR LOCAL COLLEGE STUDENTS TO COMPLEMENT THE RESEARCH COMPONENT.
