TO REBUILD COMMUNITY FOUNDATIONS BY PROVIDING AND SUPPORTING VALUED RESOURCES THROUGH PLANNING AND WORKING WITH THE COMMUNITY TO CREATE AND IMPLEMENT LASTING AND EFFECTIVE SOLUTIONS. PROVIDES TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO COMMUNITY-BASED ORGANIZATIONS, PRIMARILY ON THE LOWER EASTERN SHORE OF MARYLAND.

DRUG-FREE GRANT: POCOMOKE CITY IS A RURAL TOWN THAT HAS A POPULATION OF APPROXIMATELY 4,061 RESIDENTS. THE POCOMOKE DRUG FREE COALITION'S TARGET POPULATION IS MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH, AS WELL AS PARENTS. OUR PRIMARY GOALS ARE TO STRENGTHEN COLLABORATION AMONG COMMUNITIES, PRIVATE NONPROFIT AGENCIES, AND FEDERAL, STATE, AND LOCAL GOVERNMENTS TO SUPPORT THE EFFORTS OF COMMUNITY COALITIONS TO PREVENT AND TO REDUCE SUBSTANCE ABUSE AMONG YOUTH. THE ACTIVITIES WE ARE FOCUSING ON IS TRAINING STAFF AND OUR COALITION MEMBERS BY USING THE SAMHSA SFP MODEL TO STRENGTHEN COALITION GOVERNANCE, AND TO SUPPORT PREVENTION STRATEGIES.
SUBSTANCE ABUSE AND HIV PREVENTION PEER PROGRAM: REACHES YOUTH AGES 12 TO 18 AND YOUNG ADULTS AGES 19 TO 24 IN PEER-2-PEER COMPREHENSIVE SUBSTANCE ABUSE, HIV AND VIRAL HEPATITIS (VH) EDUCATION AND AWARENESS, SOCIAL MARKETING, AND MEDIA ADVOCACY STRATEGIES PROGRAM TO CHANGE COMMUNITY NORMS FOR YOUTH AND YOUNG ADULTS 13 TO 24 YEARS OLD LIVING IN BALTIMORE CITY AND UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS MARTICULATING AT UMES.
