EDUCATION: THE ST TAMMANY ART ASSOCIATION OFFERS EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES TO THE COMMUNITY THROUGH CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS IN ALL MEDIA AND CATERS TO ALL LEVELS OF EXPERIENCE. STUDENTS RANGING IN AGE FROM 6 THROUGH ADULT MAY LEARN THE DISCIPLINES OF DRAWING, PAINTING, CERAMICS, SCULPTURE, PRINTMAKING, ART HISTORY, DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY AND SPECIALIZED WORKSHOPS. STAA ALSO PROVIDES SPACE FOR LECTURES, MEETINGS AND BOOK SIGNINGS. EACH SUMMER, STAA CONDUCTS A THEATER CAMP, AND FOUR SESSIONS OF ART CAMP FOR CHILDREN AND TEENS. ALL ART INSTRUCTION IS CONDUCTED BY WORKING ARTISTS AND/OR COLLEGE LEVEL INSTRUCTORS.
SPRING FOR ART: THIS ANNUAL EVENT HAS OVER 40 PARTICIPATING LOCAL GALLERIES AND MERCHANTS AND DRAWS SOME 4,000 VISITORS TO THE HISTORIC ST JOHN DISTRICT EACH SEASON. NEW WORKS BY DOZENS OF ARTISTS FROM AROUND THE SOUTHEAST REGION ARE SHOWCASED. THE FREE EVENT INCLUDES LIVE MUSIC AT VARIOUS OUTDOOR AND INDOOR LOCATIONS, GALLERY OPENINGS, ART DEMONSTRATIONS, THEATRICAL AND DANCE PERFORMANCES, FIRST-RATE BOUTIQUE SHOPPING AND FINE DINING THROUGHOUT DOWNTOWN COVINGTON. VISITORS WILL STROLL THE STREETS, ENJOY LIVE PERFORMANCES BY LOCAL AND NATIONALLY-RENOWNED MUSICIANS ALL OVER THE DOWNTOWN AREA. COVINGTON'S MANY RESTAURANTS WILL BE OPEN FOR BUSINESS. PRINTED BROCHURES WITH LOCATIONS AND CONTACT INFORMATION FOR EACH PARTICIPATING SHOP WILL BE AVAILABLE THE WEEK BEFORE THE EVENT AT STAA AND AT YOUR FAVORITE LOCATIONS AROUND COVINGTON.
FALL FOR ART: STAA'S CENTRLIZED LOCATION ON COLUMBIA STREET IN DOWNTOWN COVINGTON HOLDS GREAT VALUE TO THE COMMUNITY, AS IT FUNCTIONS AS AN ANCHOR TO THE MONTHLY ART EVENTS, OCCURING ON SECOND SATURDAY EVENINGS EACH MONTH. MERCHANTS, GALLERIES AND RESTAURANTS ALIKE BENEFIT FROM SPRING FOR ART AND FALL FOR ART, SEMI-ANNUAL ART AND MUSIC CELEBRATIONS. STAA COORDINATES THESE EVENTS FEATURING AN ART WALK WITH DOZENS OF GALLERIES, RESTAURANTS AND BUSINESSES, PLUS MUSICAL ACTS AND ART DEMONSTRATIONS, DRAWING MORE THAN 15,000 VISITORS FROM ALL OVER THE SOUTHEAST REGION TO THE HISTORIC ST JOHN DISTRICT YEARLY. FALL FOR ART SHOWS APPROXIMATELY 25 VISUAL ARTISTS AND 200 MUSICIANS THROUGH EXHIBITION OPPORTUNITIES AND LIVE PERFORMANCES.
