OPERATION SCHOOL BELL IS THE NATIONAL PHILANTHROPIC ARM OF NATIONAL ASSISTANCE LEAGE. RESEARCH HAS FOUND THAT CHILDREN WITH A GOOD SELF IMAGE STAY IN SCHOOL. BY PROVIDING SCHOOL CHILDREN WITH NEW CLOTHING OPERATION SCHOOL BELL CONTRIBUTES TO THEIR SELF-CONFIDENCE AND ENCOURAGES A POSITIVE ATTITUDE TOWARD SCHOOL. THROUGH FUNDRAISING, CORPORATE DONATIONS AND OTHER CONTRIUTIONS, MEMBERS OF ASSISTANCE LEAGUE PURCHASE FIT AND DISTRIBUTE NEW CLOTHING, HYGIENE KITS AND BOOKS TO SCHOOL CHILDREN IN NEED REFERRED BT AREA SCGIIK CIYBSEKIRS. SINCE 1985 OPERATION SCHOOL BELL HAS MET THE NEEDS OF OVER 22,000 CHILDREN.
PRIMETIME TREASURES IS A UNIQUE GIFT SHOP KNOWN FOR IT'S BEAUTIFUL, HAND- CRAFTED FURNITURE, BABY ITEMS, ART AND MUCH MORE. PRIMETIME TREASURES IS A NONPROFIT SHOP ADMINISTERED AND STAFFED BY ASSISTANCE LEAGUE MEMBERS THAT SELL PRODUCTS HANDMADE EXCLUSIVELY BY SENIOR CITIZENS OF ALABAMA. SINCE OPENING ITS DOORS IN 1977, PRIMETIME TREASURE HAS RETURNED MORE THAN $3.7 MILLION TO OVER 4,000 CRAFTSMEN AND HAS RECEIVED NATIONAL RECOGNITION FOR SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY
OPERATION LITERACY HELPS PROMOT LITERACY IN OUR COMMUNITY. WE PARTNER WITH BETTER BASICS TO PROVIDE WEEKLY TUTORING IN THE BIRMINGHAM CITY SCHOOL.S A NEW READING BUDDY PROGRAM HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED AT SHADES CAHABA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN HOMEWOOD. OUR VOLUNTEERS VISIT THE SCHOOL MONTHLY TO READ WITH CHILDREN WHO ARE ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNERS THE BOOK NOOK IN PRIMETIME TREASURES IS ANOTHER WAY WE PROMOTE LITERACY. GENTLY USED BOOKS ARE OFFERED FOR SALE AT VERY LOW PRICES. THIS PROVIDES A WAY TO GET BOOKS INTO OUR COMMUNITY AS WELL AS RAISE FUNDS FOR ASSISTANCE LEAGUE OF BIRMINGHAM
