COMMUNITY EDUCATION/ADVOCACY: IN 2021 MD PARTICIPATED IN TWO LEGISLATIVE ADVOCACY EFFORTS RELATED TO IMMIGRATION LEGAL DEFENSE AND THE CO IMMIGRANT DRIVER'S LICENSES; MD ADVOCATED FOR AND ORGANIZED WITH A GROUP OF MOBILE HOME PARK RESIDENTS BEING DISPLACED BY RE-DEVELOPMENT, SECURING THE RESIDENTS FINANCIAL COMPENSATION FROM THE DEVELOPERS; AND MD CONTINUED TO BUILD AWARENESS AND EMPATHY FOR IMMIGRANT COMMUNITY MEMBERS THROUGH MEDIA AND COMMUNITY EVENTS.
LEGAL DEFENSE FUND: DACA RENEWAL SCHOLARSHIPS AND IMMIGRATION LEGAL DEFENSE IN COURT. IN 2021 MD HELPED 51 CLIENTS WITH LEGAL RESOURCE REFERRALS AND FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE IN ORDER TO BENEFIT FROM SOME TYPE OF IMMIGRATION RELATED LEGAL SERVICE, WITH PRIORITY GIVEN TO CASES INVOLVING VICTIMS OF VIOLENCE; PERSONS FLEEING PERSECUTION AND VIOLENCE AND SEEKING ASYLUM; WOMEN AND FAMILIES; AND JUVENILE VICTIMS OF ABUSE OR NEGLECT.
DACA ASSISTANCE: IN 2021 MD HELPED OVER 70 DACA RECIPIENTS OR DACA ELIGIBLE COMMUNITY MEMBERS WITH ACCESS TO IMMIGRATION LEGAL SERVICES AND FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO APPLY FOR OR TO RENEW DACA, WHICH PROVIDES WORK AUTHORIZATION AND PROTECTION FROM DEPORTATION TO IMMIGRANTS WHO MIGRATED TO THE US AS CHILDREN BUT DON'T HAVE LEGAL RESIDENCY STATUS.
