BUILDING HOMES FOR LOW INCOME FAMILIES IN NEED OF SAFE AND AFFORDABLE HOUSING IS THE ORGANIZATION'S PRIMARY EXEMPT PURPOSE. HOMES ARE BUILT USING PREDOMINATELY VOLUNTEER LABOR AND SOME DONATED MATERIALS. THE RECIPIENTS ARE REQUIRED TO WORK A CERTAIN NUMBER OF HOURS TO QUALIFY TO OWN THE HOUSE. WHEN THE RECIPIENT QUALIFIES, HE/SHE TAKES TITLE TO HOME AND ISSUES HABITAT A MORTGAGE BASED ON THE COST TO BUILD THE HOME. THE ABOVE PROGRAM SERVICE EXPENSES PRIMARILY ARE THE MATERIALS COST OF HOMES TRANSFERRED TO HOMEOWNERS.
