HMHBGA HAS BEEN A CRITICAL DRIVER IN BUILDING THE PERINATAL SUPPORT PROFESSION IN GEORGIA. THE ORGANIZATION EXPANDED THE SCALE AND SCOPE OF ITS BUILDING PERINATAL SUPPORT PROFESSIONALS (BPSP) PROGRAM TO FOSTER HOSPITAL BUY IN, DIVERSIFY ITS SCHOLARSHIP CERTIFICATIONS TRACKS AND ESTABLISH SYSTEMS FOR SUSTAINABLE CAREER PATHWAYS FOR PERINATAL PROFESSIONALS WHO SERVE THOSE DISPROPORTIONATELY AFFECTED BY PREMATURITY, INFANT MORTALITY, AND MATERNAL MORTALITY IN GEORGIA. THIS YEAR-LONG INITIATIVE PROVIDED FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE, TRAINING, AND MENTORSHIP TO 59 INDIVIDUAL SEEKING TO BECOME CERTIFIED AS DOULAS, BREASTFEEDING SPECIALISTS, CHILDBIRTH EDUCATORS, AND PEER SUPPORT PROFESSIONALS CONCENTRATING ON MATERNAL MENTAL HEALTH. CERTIFICATIONS WERE OBTAINED THROUGH BIRTHING ADVOCACY DOULA TRAININGS (BADT), CHILDBIRTH AND POSTPARTUM PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATION (CAPAA), GEORGIA MENTAL HEALTH CONSUMER NETWORK, AND 2020 MOMS.
TO MEET THE RISING NEED FOR HIGH QUALITY PERINATAL EDUCATION CLASSES, RESOURCES AND SUPPORTS, HMHBGA EXPANDED ITS PERINATAL EDUCATION PROGRAMMING WITH A SPECIFIC FOCUS ON THOSE MOST DISPROPORTIONATELY AFFECTED BY POOR MATERNAL AND INFANT HEALTH. PICKLES & ICE CREAM GEORGIA IS HMHBGAS HYBRID PERINATAL EDUCATION PROGRAM CREATED TO PROVIDE ACCESSIBLE, FRIENDLY, EVIDENCE-INFORMED MATERNAL, AND INFANT HEALTH INFORMATION AND RESOURCES TO WOMEN AND BIRTHERS IN GEORGIA. THE IMPACT OF COVID-19 PERSISTED, AND ALTHOUGH IN-PERSON ACTIVITIES RESUMED, FAMILIES REMAINED VERY CAUTIOUS ABOUT NON-FAMILIAL FUNCTIONS. TO THAT END, A VIRTUAL OPTION TO ACCESS PERINATAL EDUCATION WAS STILL IN HIGH DEMAND, AS EVIDENCED BY OUR REACH BELOW: NUMBER OF UNIQUE SITE VISITORS: 17,575 *80% INCREASE COMPARED TO 2021.NUMBER OF CLASS REGISTRANTS: 1,007 *23% INCREASE COMPARED TO 2021.NUMBER OF BLOG VIEWERS: 3,174.NUMBER OF VIDEO VIEWERS: 28,679.
HMHBGAS RESOURCE AND REFERRAL OFFERINGS SUPPORTED OVER 80,000 INDIVIDUALS AND COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS WITH THE GOAL OF ADDRESSING THE PHYSICAL, BEHAVIORAL, AND SOCIAL DETERMINANTS OF HEALTH THAT IMPACT MOMS, BIRTHERS AND BABIES. THROUGH PARTNERSHIPS WITH THE GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH AND GEORGIA STATE UNIVERSITY, OUR CALL CENTER OPERATES CHILDRENS FIRST INFORMATION & REFERRAL CENTER, HELP ME GROW GEORGIA AND PREVENT CHILD ABUSE GEORGIA. WE ALSO PROVIDED NEARLY 10,000 PERINATAL CARE ITEMS, 18,000 PRINTED EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS AND APPROXIMATELY $70,000 IN DIRECT FINANCIAL SUPPORT TO COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS AND FAMILIES. THE AGENCY HAD A SPECIFIC FOCUS ON ENHANCING RESOURCES TO SUPPORT BIRTHERS EXPERIENCING SUBSTANCE USE DISORDERS, INTIMATE PARTNER VIOLENCE, PERINATAL MOOD AND ANXIETY DISORDERS, AND/OR HOMELESSNESS.
