HEINEMAN-ROBICSEK FOUNDATION, INC. (HRF) HAS A 50-YEAR HISTORY OF DELIVERING SUSTAINABLE HEALTHCARE TO CLINICALLY UNDERSERVED COUNTRIES THROUGH THE DONATION OF MEDICAL EQUIPMENT AND SUPPLIES AND BY OFFERING MEDICAL EDUCATION AND TRAINING TO HEALTH PROVIDERS GLOBALLY. ITS MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS INCLUDE: INITIATED THE FIRST INVASIVE CARDIOLOGY AND HEART SURGICAL PROGRAMS IN THREE COUNTRIES; STARTED VASCULAR SURGERY IN ANTIGUA, WEST INDIES; CO-FOUNDED THE FIRST HEART INSTITUTE (UNICAR) IN CENTRAL AMERICA; FULLY EQUIPPED THE FIRST CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL IN HONDURAS; DELIVERED 10 INTENSIVE CARE UNITS; INSTALLED 7 HEART CATHETERIZATION LABORATORIES; FURNISHED OUTPATIENT CLINICS AND PUBLIC HEALTH INSTITUTES; IMPLEMENTED A NETWORK OF 16 NON-INVASIVE CARDIAC ECHO STATIONS IN CENTRAL AMERICA AND THE CARIBBEAN, WITH MORE BEING ADDED; ESTABLISHED THE FIRST PUBLIC WOMENS BREAST CANCER SCREENING UNIT IN BELIZE; DEPLOYED A MOBILE MEDICAL CLINIC IN NICARAGUA; AND EQUIPPED OPERATING THEATERS. IN ADDITION TO OUR MEDICAL INITIATIVES, HRF IS ALSO INVOLVED IN CLINICAL AND PUBLIC EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS. IN 2012, HRF PARTNERED WITH FUNDACIN SERGIO PAIZ ANDRADE (FUNSEPA), A GUATEMALAN NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION, WHO REFURBISHES COMPUTERS DONATED BY HRF AND DISSEMINATES THEM TO THE RURAL PUBLIC SCHOOLS THROUGHOUT GUATEMALA. HRF RECEIVES NUMEROUS REQUESTS FOR DONATIONS EACH YEAR. DONEES ARE VETTED BY HRF BOARD MEMBERS, IN-COUNTRY PARTNERS, AND VOLUNTEERS, AS WELL AS U.S. ORGANIZATIONS WORKING IN THE SAME LOCATION WHO HAVE KNOWLEDGE OF THE PROPOSED DONEE. THE REQUEST FOR SUPPORT IS REVIEWED BY THE HEINEMAN EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE AND THEN SELECTED. DONEES WHO RECEIVE SUPPORT MAINTAIN AN ONGOING RELATIONSHIP WITH HRF, WHICH PERMITS HRF TO CONFIRM THAT THE DONATION IS BEING USED FOR THE INTENDED PURPOSE.
