THE CENTER CONTINUED TO TRACK TRENDS IN THE ECONOMIC IMPACT AND FISCAL HEALTH OF NORTH CAROLINA'S CHARITABLE NONPROFIT SECTOR AND ALSO TRACKED THE IMPACTS OF COVID-19 ON THE OPERATIONS OF NORTH CAROLINA NONPROFITS.
VALUE OUR MEMBERS: THE NORTH CAROLINA CENTER FOR NONPROFITS OFFERED MEMBER BENEFITS, PROGRAMS, AND SERVICES TO INCREASE KNOWLEDGE ABOUT NONPROFIT MANAGEMENT. MORE THAN 6,500 BOARD, STAFF, AND VOLUNTEERS WORKING WITH OVER 1,100 MEMBER NONPROFITS TOOK ADVANTAGE OF THESE PROGRAMS. IN FY2021, THE MEMBER RETENTION RATE WAS 86.6%. THE CENTER SERVES MEMBERS WITH PRO BONO SUPPORT THROUGH SIX PROGRAM AREAS: LEGAL, MARKETING, HUMAN RESOURCES, ACCOUNTING, COACHING, AND EXECUTIVE TRANSITION. MEMBERS MAY ASK STAFF QUESTIONS ON SPECIFIC NONPROFIT MANAGEMENT TOPICS, FROM BOARD GOVERNANCE TO PUBLIC POLICY. MEMBERS HAVE ACCESS TO OVER 800 VETTED RESOURCES THROUGH THE CENTER'S INFORMATION CENTRAL ONLINE LIBRARY. IN FY2021, 347 PRO BONO AND MEMBER CASES WERE CONSIDERED. MEMBERS RECEIVE REGISTRATION DISCOUNTS ON WEBINARS AND PUBLICATION DOWNLOADS, DISCOUNTS ON PRODUCTS AND SERVICES OFFERED BY BUSINESSES, RECEIVE E-NEWSLETTERS, AND ARE INVITED TO OFFER FEEDBACK ABOUT THE CENTER'S PROGRAMS AND SERVICES THROUGH AN ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP SURVEY.
CULTIVATE CONNECTIONS: THE CENTER OFFERED OPPORTUNITIES FOR BOTH NONPROFITS AND BUSINESSES TO PROMOTE THEIR PROGRAMS, SERVICES, PRODUCTS, OR OPEN STAFF POSITIONS TO NORTH CAROLINA NONPROFITS. THE CENTER HAD 45 BUSINESSES LIST IN ITS BUSINESS FINDER DIRECTORY, A SEARCHABLE DATABASE FOR NONPROFITS LOOKING FOR SERVICES AROUND ACCOUNTING, DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION, INSURANCE SERVICES, AND TECHNOLOGY. NC NONPROFIT CAREERS, THE CENTER'S ONLINE JOBS BOARD, PROVIDED 718 JOB POSTINGS FOR JOB SEEKERS LOOKING TO WORK IN NORTH CAROLINA'S NONPROFIT SECTOR. THE NONPROFIT MARKET PLACE BROUGHT 12 VIRTUAL VENDORS EXHIBITING AT THE 2020 CONFERENCE. NONPROFIT CONNECTIONS, A MONTHLY NEWSLETTER, FEATURED 14 PAID NEWSLETTER BANNER ADS. IN FY21 THE CENTER ISSUED FOUR PUBLICATIONS: SALARY AND BENEFITS COMPENSATION SURVEY (124 COPIES SOLD); PRINCIPLES & PRACTICES: BEST PRACTICES FOR NORTH CAROLINA NONPROFITS WAS DOWNLOADED 144 TIMES (FREE TO MEMBERS); TOOLKIT FOR ORGANIZATIONAL RESILIENCY WAS DOWNLOADED 116 TIMES; AND THE LEGAL COMPLIANCE CHECKLIST FOR NORTH CAROLINA NONPROFITS WAS DOWNLOADED 377 TIMES. STRIVE TO MODEL BEST PRACTICES: THE CENTER RECEIVED AND SUCCESSFULLY SOUGHT FORGIVENESS ON TWO PAYCHECK PROTECTION PROGRAM LOANS. THE CENTER ALSO APPLIED FOR THE EMPLOYEE RETENTION TAX CREDIT FOR 2020 AND IS EXPECTING A REFUND OF THESE TAXES PAID. THE CENTER FINALIZED A BUSINESS PLAN TO BETTER UNDERSTAND THE SCOPE OF CAPACITY BUILDING CHALLENGES NONPROFITS FACE, THE MAKE-UP OF ITS CURRENT AND POTENTIAL MEMBERS AND PROGRAM AUDIENCE, POTENTIAL REVENUE OPPORTUNITIES, AND OPERATION COSTS. THIS WORK RESULTED IN A PILOT PROGRAM, CENTER MANAGED SOLUTIONS, TO BE LAUNCHED IN 2022, TO HELP NONPROFITS STRENGTHEN THEIR MANAGEMENT CAPACITIES THROUGH A PROGRESSIVE ENGAGEMENT APPROACH THE CENTER REVISED ITS ORGANIZATIONAL CHART TO BETTER MANAGE AND SUPPORT THE STAFF CAPACITY NEEDED TO CARRY OUT ITS MISSION. IN SPRING 20201 IT WELCOMED THREE NEW STAFF MEMBERS, INCLUDING ONE NEW POSITION. THE CENTER CONTINUES TO UTILIZE VARIOUS TECHNOLOGY PLATFORMS TO DELIVER AND EXPAND PROGRAMS AND SERVICES FOR NONPROFITS. THE CENTER HAS BEGUN PLANNING AND DEVELOPING A NEW WEBSITE TO HELP DELIVER PRODUCTS AND SERVICES MORE EFFICIENTLY TO NONPROFITS.
