THROUGH OUR RIVERS & ROADS PROGRAM, 1,415 VOLUNTEERS SPENT A TOTAL OF 3,731 HOURS PICKING UP 41,754 POUNDS OF LITTER BY HAND FROM WATERWAYS AND ROADSIDES. . GREENWORKS' TRASH TROUT LITTER CAPTURING DEVICES ON LOCAL TRIBUTARIES TO THE FRENCH BROAD RIVER. SINCE 2017, THE TRASH TROUT DEVICES HAVE CAPTURED 10,000 POUNDS. . HELD SIX SUCCESSFUL HARD 2 RECYCLE EVENTS, WITH 2,381 BUNCOMBE COUNTY RESIDENTS BRINGING THEIR HARD TO RECYCLE ITEMS SUCH AS TELEVISIONS, ELECTRONICS, BATTERIES, STYROFOAM HARDCOVER BOOKS AND MORE. IN TOTAL, GREENWORKS AND ITS PARTNERS DIVERTED 128,570 POUNDS OF WASTE FROM THE COUNTY LANDFILL.
INSTALLED, MAINTAINED AND EXPANDED A TREE NURSERY AT THE BUNCOMBE COUNTY SPORTS PARK TO RAISE UP TO 4,000 TREES TO BE USED FOR TREE GIVEAWAYS AND TREE PLANTINGS ON PUBLIC PROPERTY. GAVE AWAY MORE THAN 1,416 NATIVE TREES TO BUNCOMBE COUNTY RESIDENTS AND PLANTING 49 TREES ON PUBLIC LANDS. INSTALLED A NATIVE POLLINATOR MEADOW ON THE WILMAN DYKEMAN GREENWAY ALONG THE FRENCH BROAD RIVER IN ASHEVILLE
SIX YOUNG PEOPLE COMPLETE THE GREENWORKS YOUTH ENVERONMENTAL LEADERSHIP PROGRAM - A SIX-WEEK PLAID INTERSHIP FOR BLACK, INDEGENOUS AND PEOPLE OF COLOR (BIPOC) YOUTH.
